I think it's a good trap, too!

I think it could probably be made to work in real life, assuming the person made to do the dance was adequately fit and knew how to dance.  You could do the same thing with pushups, perhaps, or jumping jacks, or any physically demanding pursuit.  (Sorry, bad gym class flashbacks....)

I'll butt out now and let others answer.   Cheesy

"She sure got tied up alot!"
Actually Batman and Robin got tied up much more than Batgirl. For several episodes at the start of the third season Batgirl would join the Dynamic Duo and defeat the baddies and we went trapless.

In the first and second season Batman and/or Robin would get caught and tied to a deathtrap almost every time they faced a villain. This probably was due to the writers departing from the 2 part episodes in the third season. I wonder if they had kept this format if the show would have lasted longer.

" As a trap, it doesn't seem so much like a threat as an endurance test, designed to exhaust her.  Toward the end of the sequence, she's stumbling and falling against the Cossacks, and they don't skewer her with the frosted swwwords, or slash at her or anything.  They just push her back into the dancing ring."

Batman and Robin showed up in time to save Batgirl and spoil the criminals fun. If they hadn't been there things might have been different.

"if tey always planned on dunking her in the caviar. but if that was there plan why did they wait till batman and robin showed up to dunk her?"
They didn't always plan on dunking her. That was an improvised trap that Olga thought up after the sabre dance had been interrupted.

Batgirl's smiling might just be an optical illusion watching the whole sequence might reveal whether she is or not.

There's no way I can let this Subject expire without "sticking my oar in:"

The Best Batgirl Trap IMO: the Siamese Human Knot, of course:

The second best, the Cat's Whiskers:

...

Third, the Alvino Ray Gun:

...

Of course, you can always go to The Batgirl Bat-Trap Homepage! and decide for yourself!  Grin

very neat website twof. youve done a lot of work. the siamese human knot is a good trap; i wonder if that would work in real life. i dont think it would.

another observation about the caviar dunk: when batman and robin save batgirl from the vat and pull her out, shouldnt she be soaking wet and covered in caviar? there doesnt seem to be any on her. considering she was sinking in it and sank under at the end (batman and robin have to look for her because she was drowning in the caviar and went under) why wasnt she covered in caviar? Batman pulls a brush out and it looks like he cleans her off, but there wasnt any caviar on her.

Twof is the trapmaster!  Woot!

The caviar dunk's effect on Batgirl was necessarily limited, I think, by their third season special effects budget.  They used, what? diced Jell-o or something for the caviar.  It always looked more like bits of foam rubber, to me.  You can see bits of it clinging to Batgirl after she's drawn out of the tub, but not specifically in the location Batman brushes.  We do get to see the Batgirl costume get all wet at the end of the Cat's Whiskers sequence, anyway.  The tights really bag and sag once they're soaked.   Tongue

i didnt know that it was jello that they used. i knew it wasnt real caviar haha, but i always assumed that because it was gray that it was kitty litter lol. i thought they could have made it more realistic though, have her covered in caviar, since she sank all the way under. olga must have been desperate, since she wanted to eat the caviar i guess (why else would you rob caviar from a bank?) since she made egghead throw batgirl in there to drown. olga was a good villain.

the cats whiskers is also a good trap. i always imagined it was like fishing line, which is so thin and tight. i imagine taht would be very painful.

Olga was mean, much meaner than Egghead.  He seems like a nice guy by comparison.  Perhaps that's why people seem to think that Olga reduced Egghead's impact in their joint appearances.  Hmm.  I love the interaction between Batgirl and Egghead in The Ogg Couple.  Vincent Price was her favorite guest on the show, and I think we can see a bit of how she liked him in the playful quality of their encounter.

If you look at the "free at last!" vidcap I posted for the Cat's Whiskers, you can see how the fishing line they used for the whiskers was already loosened and slipping off of her before the sprinkler was ever activated.  They didn't wrap her tightly enough for it to be too uncomfortable in reality.  It looks like an uncomfortable scene to have filmed, though.  The vidcaps also show sweat patches on the Batgirl suit (unless they filmed the sequence more than once, or out of order, and the suit was previously soaked by the sprinklers).  It must have been hot, lying there in the California sun in that costume, tied up in fishing line.

Stop me if Im repeating myself 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8  Ha couldn't could you.
The Catwiskers is perhaps the best trap. Why? Because it was a trap. That feindish Catwoman and Joker, ploting, and ploying, just up to no good. For as Im sorry to say all I have is the frame by frame on the vcr and so not notice such details. But as a trap, they knew just hen to grab her an tie her up. No Batman or Robin around to assist her. This is one of the few traps that she was able to escape from by herself.

The Ogg Couple, was it a trap or just bad luck? I have very little recall on the start of it, but doo have some old footage of her slipping on the caviar and being knocked unconscious. Upon the return to consciousness, her arms bound behind her and the Cossack dance. My guess is that its not a laugh
but a gasp, almost being impailed by one of thoes swords would make me gasp. When Eggie placed her in the caviar, think of the word O put put some kind of a protest to it. Even the word no would serfice. I have never found caviar to be that cold, cool but not frezing( maybe thats why I don't care for it)

For something to be a trap does it not have to be premeditated?

I think she was freezing less because of the temperature of the caviar than because the villains' hideout was in an icehouse or something.  The room itself was supposed to be cold, and she was supposed to be wet, although she really wasnt, as egghead noted.

Should the Saber Dance not be classified as a trap?  Hmm.

Batgirl slipped on caviar, but Olga deliberately threw the caviar under the heroine's feet.

You and perilicious are probably right about the illusory quality of the apparent smiles in the vidcaps.  I can't help but wonder, though.  I keep finding a lot of stills where she looks amused while fighting.

The Cat's Whiskers is a good trap, yes.  Cage likes all of the traps.  he can't decide which one to favor.   Huh

"For something to be a trap does it not have to be premeditated?"

Yes.

But traps and deathtraps are different

Maybe this will help.
Deathtrap: a trap designed to Kill a superhero or spy in a bizzare manner eg Cats whiskers, Batman and Robin staked to the ground by shame in the path of stampeding cattle.
Emma Peel tied to railroad tracks on the Avengers.

Trap anything used to catch or trick, especially unexpectedly. eg Riddler set a trap for batman with the gun shaped cigarrette lighter and waiting photographer, a nice trick indeed. traps often have an element of ambush to them eg weighted umbrella KO ing B&R or Cornelia Triggering the trapdoor that caused B&R to slide into boxes where they were trapped. Paralysing gas used to (trap) incapacitate Batgirl inside Lord Fogg's cricket pavillion.

On the show arch criminals routinely use traps to capture Batman, Batgirl and Robin and then while they are helpless place them in a diabolical deathtrap to finish them off in style.

Bad Luck your car breaking down, being caught in foul weather etc etc.

Fishing line would be uncomfortable or painful if it was tied around bare skin or tied so tightly that it cut into the flesh under her costume.

Batgirl academic, Cage, tells us that it wasn't tied tightly and she had the protection of her Batgirl outfit so while it wouldn't be painful Yvonne did a great job of making it appear to be painful.

Olga scooped a handful of caviar and threw it under Batgirl's feet causing her to slip and hit her head. It's not a wonderfully thought out or overly tricky trap buit it's a trap nonetheless.

I just like to say "trap".  Maybe I should just shut my trap.  Hmm.  It's as plain as the trap on your map that Cage is out to prove to everyone how goofy & dumb he can be, with his posts tonight.   Grin

"Batgirl academic, Cage, tells us that it wasn't tied tightly and she had the protection of her Batgirl outfit so while it wouldn't be painful Yvonne did a great job of making it appear to be painful."

Should I feel honored or offended?   Grin  I agree: she did a great job.  When did she not?
