Leotard, BAT-TIGHTS MATERIAL
01/23/10 at 10:43pm

I have seen where Capezio is a good place to start when purchasing the Leotard style Bat-Tights.

I found their web site at  www.capeziodance.com

My question is what type of material should be used.

They offer many types of material to chose from.

If ordered in white (They do not offer the correct Bat-Grey)  , some material will not take the Rit dye (Rit Pearl-Grey).

So what 'Type' of material is best to use for the Bat-Tights, and still be able to dye ?

Any Help would be great ......... Thanks

I think supplex is supposed to be the best material to use for the Bat-tights!

Yep -- supplex is what you're looking for!  It looks a lot like the sort of cotton woven stuff they make tee shirts out of.  It takes RIT very nicely, especially if you use the Calsolene and Synthrapol as directed on the packages (nice, uniform color, no streaking or blotchiness).

If you're looking to buy ready-made, they generally suggest having the front lined, and having crotch snaps installed.  Tights can be footed or have a stirrup-foot, depending on your preference.  From what I've seen, you're probably looking at about $100 - $120, depdending on where you get them.

Fair warning.  You need a leotard, not just a top that ends at the waist.  Otherwise it will keep pulling up over the belt.
...
Wrong style.  Even the seams run in toward the neck which will give the wrong look as well.

Here's the links to pieces needed.
3708-8708 for the mock neck Leotard with back zipper
( I have them add snaps at the crotch.)
...
Correct

308-808 for the leggings.
You'll need to order them with feet or stirrups added
...
And you'll want to choose
Supplex Spandex
as the material.  I get it in white and dye it myself to get the right color.

I could NOT have correctly gone this far with out all of your help.

They custom make each item to your specs, its not an off the rail kind of garment, but the quality of their work is very good so rest assured your wait will be worth it.

I'll have something up on youtube on dying tights.  Right now I am starting on my utility belt tutorial, however.

The utility belt youtube tutorial will be all text with photos.  No video cause I haven't a vid camera.

Right now it looks like this will be a detailed overview with some measurements thrown in.  Some of the easy stuff will have to be figured out by the viewer.

The belt I made is of marine vinyl skin over leather and wood so if one wants to make a 100% leather and wood one they will need to refer to this forum on specifics.

Took a few photos last night and will take more as they are needed.  Can't say when it will be done but I will be working on it off and on this month. Smiley

Utility belt and tight dying Youtube videos are on hold.

Been too busy lately.  I'm running a net biz, working on the Batboat, have jobs as a yacht restorer and dealership car driver.  All at once. (!!!)

Lets just say I'll finish them, God willing.

Does any one have a place to order the dyeing materials ?  And suggestions on what colors to buy. Know there are 2 formulas for dying tights.

I went with the RIT, that was the easiest to get where I live.  I believe the recipe Nick gave me was 3 boxes Pearl Grey and 3/8 tsp Aubergine (a little of this stuff goes a LOOOONNNNG way, trust me!).

The only place I know of that carries Synthrapol and Calsolene is Dharma Trading Co. (I think they even might be proprietary products).  The smallest bottles they carry will be enough to do probably more sets of tights than you'll ever dye, I think it was about $10 per bottle & $10 to ship, for a total of about $30.
