Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #106: The Funny Script Felonies (w/John S. Drew!)

Another terrific podcast. Tim, I hope you are enjoying your visit to The States. John S. Drew made a funny reference to how the part 2 rewrite was Shakespeare compared to the earlier versions. You guys have a good chemistry with him, but will you ever be on his show? Then again, Batman never appeare...

Re: John Astin appears on the Gilbert Gottfried podcast!

Of course Astin would have limited input on that, but he and Julie are about the only ones left with insight on how villains were cast and what it was like to be on set. I'm not really interested anymore in the "replacing Frank Gorshin" question. Hmmm, I happen to remember someone else who still is...

Re: John Astin appears on the Gilbert Gottfried podcast!

No offense, but I doubt any of your listeners want to hear from the most sub-standard recast in the history of Batman ‘66. It would amount to two minutes of “replacing Frank Gorshin” chat and lead into a 45 minute monologue about what it was like to work with Carolyn Jones, Jackie Coogan, and Ted C...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #105: Fifty Ways to Wreck the Joker

To channel Dr. Zachary Smith..."Oh, the pain...the pain!" You would have thought Dozier learned a lesson that villain team-ups were not such a grand idea, since the movie--with four of the Rogue's Gallery--failed to be a runaway hit with audiences. While there were other factors leading to the disa...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #105: Fifty Ways to Wreck the Joker

You guys made some excellent observations about this one. The Joker and Batman both were dumbed-down big-time. Joel Eisner talked about Joker's deterioration in his book and in the To The Batpoles blog that, I am fairly certain, is not affiliated with your podcast. However, he saw the transition beg...

Re: SCRIPT: THE FUNNY FELINE FELONIES

In a similar vein, he has a line in the treatment in which Catwoman says, 'the only way I'll ever kill Batman is with love and kindness.' It's as if he also was trying to rebel against the new edict of 'ixnay on the romance angle between Batman and CW.' Is that the seed for what grew into the "Batm...

Re: A January 1966 article on the impact of Batman

(Buck Rogers on the other hand *was* dreck, except for whenever Pamela Hensley appeared as Ardala! In fact Ardala's unrequited love for Buck is a perfect example of how you do such a concept *right* in contrast to how Julie's CW with Batman is a perfect example of how you do it *wrong*) I would say...

Re: RIP Lisa Seagram (1st Louie the Lilac episode)

It's unfortunate that she lived the last few years of her life with dementia, according to the story. That is very sad. It is not important, but I'll never understand why the Bat-costumers gave her that awful red wig. Seagram was so exotic-looking with her natural brunette hair. This also points out...

Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, because of the eventual inertia of Dough-zier and Co., Thomas was proved right.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #104: Batman Returns ...and Kyle appears

...and then, Batman would tie himself to the hood of the Batmobile and compel Robin, his ears stuffed with Noiseproof Bat-Plugs, to drive him past Siren's apartment (or obvious, badly dressed soundstage?) as she sings her Emergency Broadcast System alarm. Quite the odyssey. Well-played with outstan...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #104: Batman Returns ...and Kyle appears

Animated suspension, High C? Yes. Yes he was. Thanks for the clarification. If Burton did a Peanuts movie, Charlie Brown would murder Lucy with a giant football and Snoopy would be a half-human, half-dog vowing revenge on Charlie for making him the mutant freak that he is. Hard pass. You temp...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #104: Batman Returns ...and Kyle appears

I believe Penguin's plan had to do with the fact that he was a first-born son as well and was sent off to die because of his appearance. He wanted everyone in Gotham to see how it felt to be cast away like that. Yes, but where's the profit? Pengy usually is all about the benjies, the benjamins. If ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #104: Batman Returns ...and Kyle appears

A fun show. You guys and Kyle sounded as if you had just been hanging out the day before. The good feelings and chemistry still were very much in evidence. I agree with him, the grotesque-ness of the Burton-ized Pengy origin story took me completely out of the movie. And unlike Kyle, I couldn't get ...
