For a Few Dollars More

Clearly not a Greenway production. :D

Try the veal, folks, I'll be here all week.

Nice one, Jim! That explains a lot. "Seven stories for the price of one" must've piqued Ol' Dozier's interest.
You got me on that one. I just lost it.

Re: Did the '66 movie need an A-list star?

Simple Batman math: A-Listers cost serious $$ + Dozier was cheap = Absolutely no chance of happening. I know what you're saying, but he did pay Adam $100K for the movie, a fair price for a movie lead at the time. Speaking of salaries, notice RIchard Zanuck's hand written note on the bottom of this ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #87: An Eggsasperating Eggsercise

I eggreed with some of what you guys said, but diseggreed with a few things. First of all, what were the odds that a story in which borscht figures prominently in the plot would NOT be penned by Stanley Ralph Ross?? One thing I disagreed with was Paul's assessment of Anne Baxter's performance....

Wow, it looks as if Dozier did some one-stop shopping. Great research, Jim!

Re: Did the '66 movie need an A-list star?

Good topic, High C. Thanks! True, and even though the so-called "superhero boom" had taken root in North America by 1966, it did not means superheroes were...well...bulletproof to the pount where anything produced would become a hit. Further, if looking through the eyes of audiences in the summer o...

Re: Did the '66 movie need an A-list star?

Just to elaborate regarding the point I had made to High C about a woman "A-list" star as a villainess with a Kitka like alter ego, the two names I had in mind were Natalie Wood and Lee Remick. Both were in the "never do a guest shot on episodic TV" type, but at the same time neither I think would ...

Re: Did the '66 movie need an A-list star?

Andy, thanks for your reply. You raised a lot of terrific points which I'll try to address. As an aside, you and your wife Veronica are incredible artists. I'm a writer by trade, but I literally cannot draw anything more than a stick figure, so I marvel (lower-case) at your work. Kudos to the both o...

Did the '66 movie need an A-list star?

I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I'll put it out there anyway. After all, this board is all about an exchange of ideas, within limits, of course. I was inspired to post this by the ongoing current discussion of how the movie fits (and more often doesn't fit) with the continuity of the ...

Re: And now, Art Baltazar's ARCHIE/BATMAN '66 #3 Cover

Baltazar's Tiny Titans drawings are so cute. I thought it was awesome when little Batgirl rode down the wall on her tricycle, but forgot to feed Ace The Bat-Hound his supper.

Re: Batman's upcoming marriage?

but considering we now have about 5 Robins in action 1966 Catwoman: 'And all they're interested in is BASEBALL!' <sighs> and Batman has a second batcave on the Moon, I'm guessing the goofball sensibilities of the Schiff era Batman are somehow co-existing with the sadistic excesses of modern comics....

He also often writes what he draws, and when he does his work tends to have very mature sensibilities with a huge helping of sadism and kinky smut, including "Flagg!" and "Black Kiss". Last year he stirred up a firestorm of controversy with his "Divided States of Hysteria," for reasons I won't get ...

Re: Script: FASHIONS IN CRIME, by Peggy Shaw

Do we know when this was written? It reads like a Season One episode so its possible Ms Shaw wrote this BEFORE Julie had appeared in the role which would explain Cat Woman's (as she writes it) off behavior. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a second season pitch and Lee Meriwether was who she had i...
