Re: Mezco Year one Batman

Can't believe I left out Darwyn Cooke; what a great artist, and such a shame to lose him so soon. I figure there were a couple of good reasons to evoke the "66" look with Year One. First, there's the fascinating cognitive dissonance of placing the "friendly" Adam West-style outfi...

Re: My first 13th Dimension article of 2026! 1986: Comics’ Watershed Year — 40 YEARS LATER

I don't know how much the CCA had to do with quality, but around the same time it was retired, the Big Two began the retreat from editor-dominated comics to scenarios where creators had more freedom to do their own thing. Which in some ways is an improvement, but in others not so much, because simul...

Re: Mezco Year one Batman

I just saw this Mezco figure and it reminded me of Adam West from the LIFE magazine shoot I feel like Mazzuchelli deliberately tried to evoke Adam West in his Year One design. It's easily one of my favorite comic book takes on Batman, at least visually. I always considered styles like his and Steve...

Wow, TDKR, Year One and Daredevil: Born Again all in the same year. Miller was on fire in '86, but I guess it's true what they say about "the light that burns brightest." For me, Colan only ever really "worked" when inked by Tom Palmer on Tomb of Dracula. There's an "unfinis...

Re: Mego comic action hero question

Hard not to point out how bad Wonder Woman is, but as a kid I didn't buy "girl" toys so I never had one, but I remember laughing at one a friend had. It looked like Wonder Woman as played by Lee Majors. To me it looks more like Geronimo in a swimsuit. The pose on those things was so limit...

Re: Spiderman Funstuf web shooter

One of the very few Spider-Man items I did have, because it was so appropriate. Unlike, say, a Spidey utility belt...or a Hulk helicopter!

Wonder if that Batman version has the only merch box art to feature an Ernie Chan illustration?

Cool radio, but here's the real test: Can you power it with coconuts?

Re: Batman Forever premiere reactions from 30 years ago today

It didn't help that Kilmer looked at least 10 years younger than Keaton, so he and O'Donnell seemed more like drinking buddies than guardian/ward. I liked Val in the role and the lighter tone was welcome after "Returns." I was less enamored of Carrey, who was never my bag, and I wasn't cra...

Re: BATMANIA

The "Comic Book Plus" site has 19 issues of Batmania (which may be the entire run) available to read or download: https://comicbookplus.com/?cid=746 They also have lots of other fanzines as well as Golden Age comics that have fallen into the public domain (nothing DC or Timely, but lots of...

I would love to have a Force Field Generator in 1/6th scale.
Indeed, that should be just about the right size to repel the squirrels from my bird feeder. Sweet...

Re: Corgi 1966 Batboat Being Re-released!

It's possible -- maybe even likely -- that my brother filled the tub with the express intent of putting in GI Joe, as opposed to making it a "bath time" distraction. In fairness to him, Hasbro marketed a one-man submarine specifically designed to work in the tub, but his problem was that h...

Re: Corgi 1966 Batboat Being Re-released!

I guess I had an early version since I remember the "tin fin." Amazingly I had the good sense not to actually put the boat into the bathtub (unlike my brother, who dipped his "talking GI Joe" in the tub for an aquatic adventure, after which Joe always talked like he was staggerin...

Re: Doc Savage Mezco figure

I have a friend who collects the Mezco figures. His biggest issue is that the company does things ALMOST right, but not quite. For example, they made those Star Trek figures, including variations, but they don’t have a Dr. McCoy? You can imagine how I feel with a McFarlane Captain Kirk that apparen...

Better yet, there's also a "Baumhofer" head to go with the Bamas.

Still awfully pricey, though...

Re: Just came across this interesting interview with Frank Foster III about his father’s creation of Batman in 1932!

This is a great example of why unsolicited submissions need to be returned unopened. Lots of folks come up with the same or similar ideas: the name "Batman" shows up in various unrelated pulps, the pulp character the Black Bat wore a cowl and scalloped cape, the Phantom Detective was summo...
