Re: TO THE BATPOLES #115: Two Batman Parodies

T and P, Do you think you can do another episode with more Batman parodies. Cracked did one or two more, and Mad did an interesting two pager a few years ago, where the Frank Miller Batman came into the 60's Batman world. ==jthree We don't have those handy, but we'll be talking about the above Crac...

TO THE BATPOLES #120: Can Superman solve "Batman's Great Mystery"?

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/SupermanandDuoonradio.jpg While Batman and Robin never had their own show back in the "Golden Age of Radio," they did appear from time to time on The Adventures of Superman. Sometimes it was because Superman actor Bud Collyer was taking the day off, but in t...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #119: Eureka! Is “Mummy’s Uncle” our favorite Season Three episode?

Pardon me, but I have to point out, Tim, that it was I who mentioned that when I appeared on the podcast. Willy Mack clearly was a pseudonym for Dozier, as fellow board member epaddon deduced a while back. Given that we were reviewing 'Wail,' perhaps you had heard Siren's stunning note so many time...

Also, McElroy wasn't just his poodle's name, it was also Dozier's middle name. Ah, of course! As we touched on some time ago when someone -- I believe it was you, Jim -- pointed out that "Willy Mac", lyricist of the Batgirl theme, was William MacElroy Dozier! Perhaps Stanley Ralph Ross wasn't aware...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #119: Eureka! Is “Mummy’s Uncle” our favorite Season Three episode?

GREAT catch about the recycled Wayne Manor study/batpoles scene from the first Tut episode. Wow! I wonder if the cheat was a consequence of splitting a two-parter into single episodes. Well, the recycling involved using the "yes, Commissioner" scene from season one over again in the first Tut arc f...

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/mummysuncle.jpg New TO THE BATPOLES! Is "Mummy's Uncle" our favorite ep of Season Three? Perhaps, but what the heck has happened to Adam West's line delivery?? And, we examine the faultline where a 2-parter became two 1-parters! http://tothebatpoles.libsyn.c...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #118: "Flash Gordon": Lorenzo Goes to Space Camp

Did any of the interviews mention if Mr. Semple stayed on set for re-writes of Flash Gordon? I know from interviews on the blu-ray of Never Say Never Again that several hands worked on the script to it uncredited after Semple. Those other hands are probably a part of the reason that movie was such ...

TO THE BATPOLES #118: "Flash Gordon": Lorenzo Goes to Space Camp

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/Batman-Semple-Flash.jpg What does the movie Flash Gordon (1980) have to do with Batman '66 ? Simple: a guiding force for both was screenwriter Lorenzo Semple, Jr. ! What can we learn about Semple's approach to Batman by comparing it to his work on Flash Gord...

TO THE BATPOLES #117: Ross' Final Shame

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/greatescape.jpg "Come back, Shame!" In season three, come back he does, and seemingly stupider than ever! And yet, Shame's plotting for his caper seems oddly smart. Meanwhile, Stanley Ralph Ross goes all-in on gags that are gleefully at odds with the templat...

TO THE BATPOLES #116: Victor Buono: Holy Ad-Libbed Comedy!

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/goodcleanfun.jpg One question on our minds almost since the beginning of To the Batpoles! has been: Just how much did Victor Buono, as King Tut, ad lib on the show? In this episode, we answer that question by comparing the final script to King Tut's Coup/Bat...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #114: Putting "Clean Sweep" under the microscope

I think we did comment on the Wayne Living Room appearance in passing. Yes, I believe that set had become the GC Library. It looks like they merely grabbed the (or ANY) fireplace, and put it in front of some wallpaper that didn't look familiar to me. Viola! Wayne Living Room! They could have used th...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #114: Putting "Clean Sweep" under the microscope

We did mention that crazy newsstand in the podcast, by the way! Another fun installment. I'm going to miss this podcast when you reach the end of the series! End of Batman series doesn't equate with end of podcast series! Just ask John S. Drew! We still have a bunch of additional things to talk abou...

TO THE BATPOLES #114: Putting "Clean Sweep" under the microscope

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/microscope.jpg "The Penguin's Clean Sweep" has more logical inconsistencies and oversights than you might realize at first glance. Our childhood friend Kyle joins us once again to put this episode under the microscope! Also, from the archives, another Batman...

TO THE BATPOLES #113: Tying Ourselves in Knots: Nora Clavicle Reconsidered (with “Twof”!)

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/siamesehumanknot.jpg Without a doubt, one of the most maligned Batman episodes is Nora Clavicle and the Ladies' Crime Club. The episode's sexist portrayal of women obviously wouldn't fly today, but do the men in this episode fare any better? It seems to have...
