Re: Burt Ward On Set Crisis on Infinite Earths

Interesting. I would love to see his part in this, if I'm able to endure whichever milquetoast CW-DC show he appears on (Batwoman, I presume).

Re: Van Williams had a backdoor pilot for a Western show

I'm well aware that the series was heavily merchandised, what I said was that it didn't sell. The hope was that it would hit as big as Batman and we all know that didn't happen. According to Billie Rae Bates book, which has some excellent information on the GH series, William Dennis who was head of...

Re: Van Williams had a backdoor pilot for a Western show

I've read the opposite--that the series was heavily merchandised (which I know to be true), and that it was successful. In a related note, here's a passage from the book View-Master Memories (by Mary Ann & Wolfgang Sell): "The big talk going around at Toy Fair that year centered around one major cha...

Re: Van Williams had a backdoor pilot for a Western show

I was aware of Pursue and Destroy , and he was fortunate that it was never picked up as a series, as war dramas were starting to march their way out if popularity by the time this was produced (e.g., Combat! and Twelve O'Clock High ended in '67, Garrison's Gorillas in '68), so he would not have been...

Stacy Harris was a favorite of Jack Webb's and appeared in numerous radio and TV episodes of Dragnet.
Usually as a criminal.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #120: Can Superman solve "Batman's Great Mystery"?

I'm not sure how the radio stories hold up, but it was interesting to hear that version of Superman; he so much that larger than life figure of the Golden Age, and all thanks to Collyer's great delivery. The negative (annoying) portrayal of Robin seems to stem from the period's general perception of...

Re: What replaced BATMAN ?

The show that technically replaced it on ABC's schedule following the Minerva episode was "The Second Hundred Years," a one-season comedy starring Monte Markham. The Ugliest Girl premiered that September. That show had been airing on Wednesday nights, with that spot replaced by a game show, "Dream ...

Re: Bringing the Bat Boat in line with the Batmobile: The Aqua Bat

That would have been a great Batboat for the series/movie, although a wraparound windshield would have really added the perfect touch. Being closer in design/paint application to the Batmobile is one of the reasons I always appreciated Corgi's diecast Batboat, as the black--instead of blue--was the ...

Re: Van Williams had a backdoor pilot for a Western show

Van Williams was considered a strong actor and had good representation, hence the reason his agent--according to Williams--was able to keep getting Greenway back to the negotiating table to get him a percentage of the GH merchandising (which was considerable) and a higher salary. While The Green Hor...

Re: The Dumbing Down of Batman

Let's face it. The plot in Ring should've been to have The Siren hypnotize the favored boxers and command them to take dives. Riddler bets on the underdogs and cleans up. Easy-peasy. Its a good idea, but that would have been too mature for flying saucer/deadly bees/fruit flies/surfing/wind-up mice/...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

^Good find.

I always thought the Batboat's black paintjob was cool and sensible, since the Batmobile is black. Not screen accurate, but Corgi's choice was a good one.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #119: Eureka! Is “Mummy’s Uncle” our favorite Season Three episode?

Watching this in order, one cannot help but think of better Bat-days when Jock Mahoney pops up in his very small role... The final Tut episode was...okay. The obvious highlight was the mine shaft / Batcave scene, where music and performance of West and Ward were appropriately laced with fear and urg...

Re: Looks Like Shazam! is Coming to Blu-Ray!

Interesting. I wonder if this s just a transfer from the source used for the DVDs. Moreover, the DVD had once-lost "lesson" tags as a special feature, but not added back to their original episodes, so I would be curious to know if they found clean versions of those cut segments.
