Re: TO THE BATPOLES #150: “The Astrologer”: The Proto-“Zodiac” Script

Where to start. Kandel's script seemed like it was doomed to fail; the entire Zodiac angle was not so creative a plot device that it justified the presence of two of the Dynamic Duo's greatest villains, which was apparent in the filmed version. I've always felt that "The Zodiac Crimes" arc...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #149: Alan Napier: "Not Just Batman's Butler"

Guys, you just beat up on the memory of poor Alan Napier! Just kidding. Still, you guys were rather disappointed with the lack of attention Napier's biography paid to his Batman experiences. I do understand that Napier may have enjoyed the attention and checks, he had a very long career before Batma...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #148: Washburn II: Meet the Stars!

Thanks to the "Washburn Three" for sharing their stories about the student film. Its interesting that Tim Olson, Mike Smith and Ross Olson recall thinking of the TV series as more of a sitcom, as its a far different recollection than friends who watched it first run as teenagers and though...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #146: An Early Batman '66 Fan Film, Revealed!

I have these questions: 1--What was it about the show that motivated them to do all this? What did they enjoy so much about it? 2--Did they 'get it,' the vibe of the show, right away? I mean, was the idea for their own film there pretty soon after the premiere or was it a gradual momentum after the...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

Same cufflinks worn by Bruce Wayne in “The Great Escape”. He uses one to signal Robin to use the Bat Answer Phone. They were made by Anson. I have both silver and gold tone but I cannot be positive which color Bruce is wearing because the set lights can wash out metallic colors. Sometimes, it amaze...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #144: Leslie Martinson: He’s Tha Bomb

I've read and re-read your remark here a number of times now and i've got to admit that i'm still not entirely sure what you're getting at? Revisionist in what sense of the word? Revisionist in that some present day fans and/or writers will swear the series was a sitcom (another Bat-related board h...

Re: Allan Moore's Gone Off - AGAIN

Moore seems to forget that the original Batman comics were nothing like the '66 series. He's essentially using what was a one-off, very divergent adaptation (and ignoring what established the character) lead to his false conclusion. It would be the same as someone saying the cartoon Spider-Man and H...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #144: Leslie Martinson: He’s Tha Bomb

Another winner, guys. I appreciated the look at the career of actor Steve Franken, who was SO snobby/funny on Dobie Gillis . Franken also had a brief appearance in Michael Crichton's sci-fi thriller Westworld (1973) as a frightened technician who told Richard Benjamin's Peter Martin character about ...

Re: Will Green Hornet ever come to DVD?

Thank goodness I recorded the entire series UNCUT off the Action Channel years ago...without commercials on VHS @ SP! It actually reran for well over a year or so from episode 1 to the end multiple times. I actually have a copy of the ones from encore action channel & I'm pretty sure on The Sil...

Re: Shakespeare bust appearance

The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis was credited as a Martin Manulis Production with 20th Century Fox, so I guess one can assume the bust had been around the Fox prop department for some time--in other words, no one consciously went out and purchased one specifically for Batman?

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #143: Jeff Bond talking Bat-movie music? Oh buoy!

I think Riddle made the right decision to create new music for the movie; as noted about the main title, recycling the 1st season music would have been repetitive for a production that was pretty much advertised as being "bigger and better" than anything Bat-fans had seen before. Of note i...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #143: Jeff Bond talking Bat-movie music? Oh buoy!

Jeff Bond...where to begin. Thank you and the guys for a very interesting show. Jeff and his associates have produced SO many great books and soundtracks I am more than happy to have in my collection. His book The Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen (released a year ago) is all anyone will ever need on Al...

Yeah, the ornaments are way overpriced, and some have poor sculpts, so this is a hard pass.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #142: Fine-Tuning "The Penguin Goes Straight"

I really enjoyed this episode, and in going over all that went into the aired episode, it just hammers home the glaring differences of how the show was intended to be produced as opposed to the often downward direction of episodes from seasons 2nd and almost all of the 3rd season, which (as I've poi...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #140 Julie and Eartha: Two Cat-egories of Catwoman

Newmar gave the role a life it did not have before, adding her own interpretation of what a felonious female super-villain would be. Unlike other actors who were the first to play a comic character, she was not really channeling the source, but playing Catwoman as if she lived in the real world, and...
