Re: TO THE BATPOLES #168: “Dick Tracy” and “Wonder Woman”: The Dozierverse Stumbles

Another winner, guys. You were wondering how films like the Wonder Woman short were used, and you were on the right track by theorizing that it was aired for the networks. Even very successful producers still needed to go the "proof of concept" route when trying to get a new series greenli...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #167: Tom Peyer talks “Batman 66” and “The Wrong Earth”

But I know you know that. So I guess I'm wondering if you can clarify what the difference is? Going by Peyer's statement: "..the Batman TV show in the 60s in particular was a VERY honest portrayal of what comic books were at the time .." He was generalizing about all comic books--not just...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #167: Tom Peyer talks “Batman 66” and “The Wrong Earth”

When Tom said this, I assumed he was talking about DC comics c.1966, not Marvel (though of course he didn’t say so explicitly). Gardner Fox’s JLA stories were great fun, for example, but goofy as anything, logically challenged, and the characters? Flat as pancakes. When Tim and I read New Look Batm...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #167: Tom Peyer talks “Batman 66” and “The Wrong Earth”

Interesting interview, guys. The idea of two versions of the same character meeting and/or misunderstanding the other reminded me of one-panel MAD magazine parodies where this kind of meeting led to one character insulting the other. For someone in the comic business, Peyer did go down a head-scratc...

Although I never met her, on the board she always seemed very nice. Sad that she's passed on.

Re: Happy Hornet Anniversary!

Absolutely fantastic work, Todd! Your figures are far closer to the TV characters than some of the commercially available figures based on Batman '66. About the anniversary, yes, I thought about the series and how that kind of adaptation really paved the way toward serious adaptations of costumed ch...

No kidding, and the $85.00 price? Waaayyy too overpriced for this kind of playset.

Thanks for sharing that, epaddon! That is a nice bit of history regarding the '66 series' influence.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #166: "Batman and Robin": Hot and "Kalt"

Over the decades, Batman has a few markers almost universally identified as destructive blows to the character; one would be the much of the late Golden early Silver Age Batman comics, for some, its part or the '66 series' second and most of its third season, still others point to Legends of the Sup...

Great topic, guys! Sanders and his story will always be my favorite: at that point in the series, villains still had a sense of menace, and Sanders' Freeze had that by the truckload. He was the only Bat villain who was the perfect blend of the fantastic and sophistication that one would find in a 60...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #163: "Phantom Pharaoh" Reveals Semplian Batman

Another winner, guys. Tim, your "...he's too busy serving on every committee in Gotham City to chase any skirts." had me straining to not make an appropriately timed Andrew Cuomo reference. About the "playboy" trait purposely removed from the '66 Bruce Wayne: it's odd that Semple...
