Re: Who is THE expert on '66 bat-merch?
I’m guessing Lou means that as many companies were licensed to release Bat-merch (whether quality stuff or Crimes Against Batmanity) as there are stars in the sky…or would that be a galaxy?

Re: High C Has Passed Away
This is shocking and terribly sad news. High C was not only a titanic Bat-fan; he was also smart, generous, highly curious, and a loyal, outgoing, and concerned friend. I can’t say we were close by any means, but Tim and I could always rely on him for honest and thoughtful comments about Batman and ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #187: "Superman" musical: It's not a bird, but is it camp?
Thanks for posting this material, Scott. Tim and I found this Vulture piece on the Texas “rehab” of the show, which also includes great info on the original run: https://www.vulture.com/news/it%27s-a-bird-...-it%27s-a-plane-...-it%27s-superman/ It’s behind the New York magazine paywall, but can be r...

Scott, Thanks for taking the time to critique the podcast. Clearly you care about it or you wouldn’t take the time and care to write such an extensive critique. We can always do better on fact-checking and certainly I can do much better regarding preparation. (I’ll speak almost exclusively for mysel...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #167: Tom Peyer talks “Batman 66” and “The Wrong Earth”
When Tom said this, I assumed he was talking about DC comics c.1966, not Marvel (though of course he didn’t say so explicitly). Gardner Fox’s JLA stories were great fun, for example, but goofy as anything, logically challenged, and the characters? Flat as pancakes. When Tim and I read New Look Batma...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #164: "The Curse of Tut" scripts: Rondeau and Buono improve on Dennis and Barret
[Edited/revised slightly for clarity:] I think it’s important to recognize that “improvisation” in film and TV production rarely refers to a completely spontaneous take—one in which an actor embellishes or changes a line of dialogue or some stage business—that makes it to the final cut of the progra...

Nice catch, BWH! These are pretty funny, and reminiscent of the Road Runner bumpers on the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour, which consisted of Wile E. Coyote’s “greatest hits,” as I recall.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #151 “Bat-motography” and “The Conqueror Bookworm”
Thanks for the useful information about parallel banks, Ben. Never having shot on a film set myself, and not being a production historian, I sometimes blunder my way through such interpretations during the podcast—not a good habit to get into under any circumstances.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #149: Alan Napier: "Not Just Batman's Butler"
Hi BWH: thanks for weighing in, and happy holidays to you and yours! I can’t speak for Tim when I say that I wasn't really disappointed in the relative lack of Bat-content in Napier’s memoir. But I was feeling a little (perhaps needlessly) apologetic for presenting a Bat-related autobiography (to Ba...

High C wrote: Also, Paul, I disagree about the reason for Alfred's 'addiction' to watching a TV show. Remember, it was a Wednesday . Re: TO THE BATPOLES #132: Women of Season One: Not Just "Poor, Deluded Girls"
Now I’m not sure what we’re disagreeing about, BWH. Did I say in the podcast that sexist representations of female drivers were “growing” in number in the seventies? If so, I was wrong, but I don’t think I did. Also, I believe that stereotypical and progressive images of women can and do coexist in ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #132: Women of Season One: Not Just "Poor, Deluded Girls"
These representations of women drivers are comedy, true, and sometimes they flip the stereotypical hierarchy (viz. BRADY V. BRADY). My point is that such representations, even played for “pure” comedy, depend on a very recognizable trope of the “Bad Lady Driver” that saturated US mass culture (parti...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #129: The Show's Ratings, and Rating "Godzilla"
Thanks, Bob. The pleasure was all ours, and we’re grateful for all your diligent labor! As a film studies guy, I’m a huge fan of your 3D restoration work as well. I had no idea that CREATURE was one of yours; it’s on par with the 35mm “polarized” print I saw at the Music Box in Chicago back in the m...
