Re: Parkview Elementary Batman: The Scheme is Sound

Incredible! The direction is great, they nailed essential setpieces from the show, and their locations are fantastic. I especially love the lyrics they added to the villain cues.

Re: 1977 Batman Wrist Shooting Grappling Hook Toy

The ad art is by the Joe Kubert school-- might be Kubert himself-- that's great stuff. I think the literal Joe Kubert School (the art-instruction institution, which probably had/has a different name than that) may have contracted to do commercial work as a way of giving students practical experienc...

All that's missing is this final "punchline".

"One funny thing about all this uproar," he said. "No one sends me riddles in the mail."
Great detective work! Thanks.

Re: April 1966 article on Frank Gorshin

Great find! Thanks for sharing. "A bizarre character is no longer bizarre if you see him too often." Amen to that. I wish the makers of Batman comics had taken that notion more to heart, particularly with respect to the Joker. His dwindling appearances in the early 70s helped make his stories feel l...

Re: Figures fit for a dashboard?

I posted in another thread a few years ago, but I equipped my "Batmobile"—a 2015 Civic sedan— with the Diamond batphone coin bank. I had the phone on my desk, next to my Shakespeare bust, but it just didn't look right, so I found a plastic jar that fits snugly into my car's cup holder, and velcroed ...

Fantastic! I believe Rowlf is considered the first Muppet. I saw him, Kermit, and others at The Smithsonian quite a few years ago.

Re: BATMAN to be Celebrated at International Conference

To Jim Akin, I see that you have been a member on this board since 2012. This gave you ample time to publish a post about the history of the "New Look" batsuit. I could not find any of your published research on the subject. I read your response, which was to reveal the history of the first use of ...

Re: BATMAN to be Celebrated at International Conference

Cool Jim! You said in a nutshell what I've been trying to find out for a while now. Great! Glad I could assist. One detail I left out: As noted at the Grand Comics Database, World's Finest #141 went on sale March 12, 1964, two weeks before Detective #327 . The difference in newsstand dates is why W...

I've dabbled with 3D design software enough to know how much effort you must have put into this. You did a great job. Thanks for sharing.

Re: BATMAN to be Celebrated at International Conference

The presentation sounds great, but there's no big mystery around the first appearance of the "New Look" batsuit (with the yellow oval around the chest insignia). The first comics story to feature the New Look costume was World's Finest Comics #141 , cover-dated May 1964, in a story titled "The Olsen...

Re: SCRIPT: THE FUNNY FELINE FELONIES

[It's] almost as if he wanted to pitch expensive, hard-to-shoot scenes for his own enjoyment, knowing they'd be excised. Great point. That completely fits my impression of Ross as an oversized kid, tickled at all he was able to get away with. :) But for [Batman] to accept Joker's handshake, especia...
