Re: Digital Episodes

I lost track of my digital episodes when Flixster migrated to Vudu, but FWIW, I don't think they were ever downloadable, just streamable.

Re: The (Jigsaw) Puzzles are Coming

Despite a cloth covering, our cat scattered enough pieces that I put the puzzle away. I'm heading to my mom's for an extended stay next week, and I'm bringing it with me for another try. Fingers crossed that the kitty didn't make off with any pieces.

Dick Tracy hat-tip to '66 Batman

Seven or eight years ago, I started following the Dick Tracy daily comic for the first time since childhood after hearing of a plotline that revived an old Tracy villain, Broadway Bates, and gave him a new connection to a character from the bat-universe: Tracy put Bates away after he committed a ser...

Re: Slot Car Set Recreated

Awesome. And it's got newfangled digitally controlled cars that don't rely on the track for power.

I imagine if there were a '66 Batmobile model available, this guy would have one. But producing one should be on somebody's to-do list.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #132: Women of Season One: Not Just "Poor, Deluded Girls"

My final comment is actually a question.... The role of the moll. It seems to be like the nature of a moll is similar to that of a henchmen in this show, which means those characters (male and female) are not necessarily going to be portrayed in the best light, imo. This is a good point for discuss...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #132: Women of Season One: Not Just "Poor, Deluded Girls"

Great conversation, but you missed my favorite season one moll—and one I'd argue deviates at least little from the interchangeability of the ones discussed in the podcast. Lisa, Mad Hatter's protegée in The Thirteenth Hat/Batman Stands Pat, takes an active role in Tetch's schemes, and she needs no e...

Re: SCRIPT: THE JOKER'S WILD

Borrowing the furnace setup for his script certainly would have been fair game for Semple in his role as script supervisor. Not saying he did, only that he had total license to do so, and that the timeline doesn't seem to rule out that possibility. Do dates on script drafts offer any details of whi...

Re: SCRIPT: THE JOKER'S WILD

I agree with Ken: Considering his was the first non-Semple script to air, and that the only finished episode he had to emulate was the pilot, Robert Dozier did a remarkable job nailing the show's rhythms and characterization. I gather Semple must have agreed since, as Ken noted, most of the dialog i...

Re: Batman Ratings

Marc Cushman graciously replied to my query, in a rapid, detailed response: Finding ratings from that era has never been easy. But I have three ways of doing it: 1) From my archival newspapers and trade magazines accounts. They access thousands of different newspapers across America, as well as Vari...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #131: 1970: Batman goes solo and gets spooky

I don't remember that there was that much merchandising in the 1970s. Anyway, then new publisher Jeanette Kahn suggested that the merchandising would dry up if there weren't new comics to draw in fans. I haven't read the Implosion book, but I recall the event itself and have read some of the backgr...

Re: Batman Ratings

Great discovery, ClavierAnkh! I gather some kind of Nielsen subscription was needed to obtain those numbers, at least at one time. I'm unfamiliar with ratings as a tool, and have no idea if a current subscription would provide access to historical numbers or not, if Nielsen even maintains historical...

Re: Catwoman 80th Cover

That "Catwoman of Earth" story looks like a lot of fun.

It's great to see Prof. Overbeck again. I have a TPB of the first 6 issues of the Batman '66 comic, but didn't follow the whole series. Was the professor a recurring character?

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #130: Reading fan letters in the Wayne living room

I tried posting this to the libsyn page for the podcast, and something weird happened, so I'm not sure it stuck. I'm not sure it originated there, but the version of the Batman theme used in the podcast can be found on a TV-theme compilation album called Television's Greatest Hits. TelevisionsGreate...

Re: Puzzle pieces Upside Down

Yep. In the episode "The Joker Trumps an Ace," Bruce and Dick are assembling a jigsaw puzzle together:

Dick: It's so much harder with the pieces upside down.
Bruce: Of course. Think of what excellent training it is for your visual memory.
Dick: Gosh yes, I guess that's true.
