Re: The Caped Crusade and The Rise of Nerd Culture

FYI, Tim and Paul discussed the book in a To the Batpoles! podcast a couple of months ago.

Re: The (Crossword) Puzzles Are Coming

What is this thing you call a "newspaper?" It's mostly a fond memory for me. I did a few years in the trenches as a reporter and copyeditor. The Courant is a husk of what it once was, and the days of analog news sure seem to be numbered. Batman can still fool crooks by planting phony stories on Twi...

The (Crossword) Puzzles Are Coming

. . . SPOILER ALERT FOR TODAY'S WASHINGTON POST/L.A. TIMES CROSSWORD (7/27/2018) . . . . Our local newspaper, the Hartford Courant, features the crossword puzzle from the Washington Post/L.A. Times Syndicate , and I've gotten into the habit of solving it online rather than on paper. (It's easier to ...

Re: 1:18 Batmobile and Deathmobile

Look behind the Batman figure in the first pic in this 13th Dimension post. I don't know if it's the original Deathmobile, but the collection includes many true artifacts (including a Barris Batmobile), so it definitely could be.

Board member Dan Greenfield can probably shed light on this.

Re: '66 movie: Sterling Holloway and other tidbits

Facebook member "The Crimson Collector" posted images of the press kit for the Batman feature film, and it lists Sterling Holloway in the cast.

Those production decisions evidently were happening too fast for the publicity department to keep up.

Re: Beatles Yellow Submarine now on Amazon Prime Video

Actually I'm not sure I own a single Monkees record (I've lost track of how many Beatle-related recordings I have), but the show was fun way back when. Back in the day, I only ever had a cereal-box single of I'm a Believer . (The disc is long gone, but I still love the song), A friend convinced me ...

Re: Egghead tailcoat pattern?

Professional theater companies sometimes have costumes available for rent as well. Sizes can be limited to whatever was made for cast member(s), but they're often designed with re-use in mind, and so crafted in ways that allow for size adjustments. Sometimes there are lots of variants (e.g. military...

Re: Comedian Jeff Dunham's 66 Batmobile

Doesn't Dunham also own a replica of the 1955 Futura (with the red paint job from "It Started with a Kiss")?

Re: Batgirl's new costume

Costumes get redesigned so often these days that I hardly pay attention anymore, but cowl-less uniforms for Bat-family members are nothing new -- even setting aside the obvious cases of Robin and Nightwing. The new Batgirl mask isn't much different from the mask worn by the original Batwoman, introd...

Re: The origin of King Tut?

An almost perfect recipe for King Tut's origin would be a mashup of "The Walking Mummy" with "The Caveman At Large," originally published in Batman #102 (1956) and reprinted in Batman #176 (cover-dated December 1965). The "Caveman" story lacked Egyptian trappings, but it concerned delusional mayhem ...

Re: Bat-upstaging

It's hard to prove. But on a recent re-watch, it struck me that Adam might be hogging screen time in the scene in The Joker's Last Laugh when Batman's analyzing funny money in the Batcave. Adam seems to take *forever* to say the names of the insidious ink colors (rotten-apple red, bilious blue, etc....

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #87: An Eggsasperating Eggsercise

One thing I disagreed with was Paul's assessment of Anne Baxter's performance. I thought it was too far over the top and it didn't grab me at all. I don't like these episodes much, but I consider Olga a highlight amid the season three dreariness. She is very, very cartoony, with her Boris-and-Natas...

Re: Another comic story that was the basis of a Batman 66 episode.

A couple of other possible connections between Batman #176 and the development of the TV series: The cover touts five of the seven stories included in the issue. The other two are "Parasols of Plunder," the Penguin adventure mentioned in my previous post, and a 1956 story titled "The Caveman at Larg...

Re: Another comic story that was the basis of a Batman 66 episode.

Was there not a mid sixties comic which reprinted some old stories (Joker's Utility Belt amongst them), which indicates current comics (albeit reprints) were being used as reference material? It's almost certain that the stack of issues Dozier and Semple used for research included Batman #176 (cove...
