Re: Things you didn't notice or remember until seeing the DVDs

This may be a little skewed from the intent of the thread, since it's not about a detail revealed in remastered video, but it concerns something I took a long time to notice (and it doesn't warrant a thread of its own). I've been running Season 2 shows in the background as I work; it helps me stay i...

Re: KHJ Promotion

I was thinking the Riddler reference could have been put in the contest-promo script without necessarily tracking against TV episodes, but then I noticed that the caption to the KHJ photo says the prize was awarded in January (1966). So the radio contest must have been closely tied to the launch of ...

Re: When did you first see the show?

I was a few months shy of three years old when Hi Diddle Riddle first aired. Batman is literally one of my earliest non-family memories. We moved from the New York metro area to greater Boston in the fall of 1966, and one of the bonuses of our new house was a color TV set, so Batman got an upgrade. ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #118: "Flash Gordon": Lorenzo Goes to Space Camp

I haven't had a chance to listen and I've never seen "Flash Gordon" (though I've heard the soundtrack), but you guys deserve a pat on the back for that episode title. :)

Re: KHJ Promotion

KHJ celebrated its first anniversary in 1966, and published a commemorative "annual" that's reproduced here in PDF form . It includes a photo of Adam West handing Fred Jones a gift certificate for the TV he won, another photo of Batman with one of the KHJ disk jockeys, and lots of other cool pics of...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #117: Ross' Final Shame

Chief Standing Pat...where to start, other than that by 1968, such offensive stereotypes were being scrubbed from American TV series, so his presence in the episode seemed like Ross and/or Greenway were determined--in the case of Native Americans--to not "bend" to the shift in perceptions of minori...

The Lambeth Walk

In "The Cat and the Fiddle," when Aunt Harriet asks Alfred to do the Catusi with her, he begs off by saying his dance career "ended with the Lambeth Walk" and pleads "War injury" by way of explanation. I only just thought to look that up (I'd misheard it as "Lambert Walk"), and discovered this clip ...

Re: A Revisit To The Bookworm

When I think about it now, did any villain ever physically threaten a moll? Besides Joker's plan to poison Susie with Mexican perfume, he also tried to feed Venus to the giant clam. Tut subjected Nefertiti to his pebble torture and planned to boil Neila in oil after she freed Robin and Lisa Carson.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #116: Victor Buono: Holy Ad-Libbed Comedy!

Excellent analysis! FYI, after consulting A. Pennyworth's YouTube compilation of batclimb window cameos , I found that four of the 14 encounters occurred during reverse batclimbs, when the duo was descending a wall: Dick Clark (Shoot a Crooked Arrow) Bill Dana (The Yegg Foes in Gotham) Don Ho (The B...

By the way, the piece is credited to "M & O.O. Severin," which I take it to mean Marie Severin, but the "O.O."--is referring to?
O.O. was a pseudonym used occasionally by John Severin, Marie's brother and frequent collaborator.

Re: KHJ Promotion

Awesome! Never heard of this, but I found a longer video that gives all the clues in the contest (as narrated by Batman and Robin), and shows some promotional imagery as well.

And here's the solution to the puzzle.

Re: Things you didn't notice or remember until seeing the DVDs

After umpteen viewings of "Fine Feathered Finks," I only just noticed the "Gotham Missile Corporation" sign in the background of the giant-umbrella scenes. That company's proximity to the K.G. Bird factory could explain why the building-rattling launch of the ballistic bumbershoot didn't spark a pan...

Re: Burt Ward to appear in CW's "Crisis on Infinte Earths"

I wonder if they have plans for some of the other actors who, like Lynda, are already a part of this universe, like John Wesley Shipp, Helen Slater and Dean Cain. Shipp, I believe, already has reprised his role as the Flash he played in the 1990 series. Yes. Shipp appeared in an Elseworlds episode ...

Re: Mattel Alfred with ‘66 Alfred head sculpt!

I'm not sure, but I think the first head on the left might be The Outsider, a villainous alternate-Earth version of Alfred. Can anyone who went to SDCC confirm? The character is an updated version of a villain dating back to comics published at the time the TV show debuted. Alfred had been killed sa...
