Merry Christmas Eve!

'Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the abandoned factory
Not a henchman was stirring
They were under the spell of Lorelei Circe

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #125 Minerva: Holy self-parody!

As for the podcast itself, thanks for the shoutouts. Tim, I had forgotten sending you Dozier's letter to Zsa Zsa. Wow. Strangely enough, he had less than complimentary things to say about her in his 'glossary' that archivist/researcher Oscar Lilley found in Laramie and that you shared in the notes f...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #125 Minerva: Holy self-parody!

First of all, many thanks to Dr. Shimel for his typically excellent research clearing up a myth and also shining a light on why Zsa Zsa had to bail on playing Marsha. It never made sense that Zsa Zsa seriously was considered for Zelda. To be frank, that role simply was not in her wheelhouse. Honestl...

That was a lot of fun, Scott. Well-done. Catchy hook, too.

What font is that from the supered episode titles?

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #124: Penguinalysis: How would '60s comics fans have seen Meredith?

Terrific show. I learned a lot I did not know about Penguin and the Bat-comics in general. Great idea by Kyle. One other thing worth mentioning: Supposedly the character of The Penguin was inspired by the advertising mascot for Kool cigarettes: I have to admit, being totally serious, as a childhood ...

Re: BATMAN'S COMIC BOOK ADVENTURES

These are fascinating, Andy. Thanks for sharing. Hooded Hangman seems like a third-season villain in terms of goals. 'Who needs to be a successful anchorman?? Once I control Gotham City's wrestling fans, I'll rule the world!! MUHAHAHAHAAA!!' I mean, I like his villainous unhingedness, but he needed ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #123: Dr. Cassandra makes the show disappear

This isn't quite 'Bat Deja vu,' but it is, I think, an interesting and arcane Bat-connection. In 1983, famed Hollywood photographer George Hurrell did the shoot for Joan Collins' iconic Playboy spread. What does that have to with this episode? Well, my research into Dozier's budget paperwork and on-...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #123: Dr. Cassandra makes the show disappear

I must admit, I can't find that much to like about the actual episode, although Paul's praise for Ida Lupino is well-deserved. It's too bad they didn't give her a better character. She understood the genre, having done a Wild, Wild West the previous TV season as a Dr. Frankenstein-esque villain. Lup...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #122: Parade of Bat-Parodies

Interesting stuff, sirs. I liked the concept of the Jerry Lewis parody, although I thought the execution left a lot to be desired. I could picture even Stanley Ralph Ross rolling his eyes at some of the alleged jokes. That said, the line about Newmar was very amusing. Too bad Catwoman was not in it....

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #121: Send Off the Clown (with Ken Holtzhouser!)

Here are some more cast things I wanted to comment on, including Ken's observation about how there didn't seem to be as much emphasis on the choices for moll actresses in season 3. And I'm not disparaging the quality of any of the performances. But other than Betsy Boldface and Lady Prudence, most o...

Even Wild Wild West (set in the 1870's) had a space ship/UFO episode.

And don't forget the Green Hornet's "Invasion from Outer Space!"
And both of those episodes featured a Bat-moll in a very moll-like costume, Leslie Parrish in The Wild Wild West and Linda Scott in Green Hornet.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #121: Send Off the Clown (with Ken Holtzhouser!)

Tim, Paul, great show as always, this time with a terrifically amusing guest. Ken summed it up the best with his much better written plot. Even in a fantasy world, Hoffman struggled mightily to devise plots that had internal logic, even with the fantastic and far-out tenor of the show. This reminds ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #120: Can Superman solve "Batman's Great Mystery"?

Fun episode for No. 120, guys. I had never heard of this before. As Tim's title points out, I guess it was wrong to expect a great Batman story when it is Supes' candy store. Frankly, the plot as you described it bores me. Too much of, as you said, Robin being super-annoying, first of all. I could p...
