Re: 1977 Batman Wrist Shooting Grappling Hook Toy

Remembered I posted about the Heroes World catalogs once on my Superman fan site, with a comparison of some items as advertised vs the real thing.

http://davidmorefield.com/superman/clip ... sworld.htm

There's a link in there to the actual catalogs as hosted over at the Mego Museum.

Re: 1977 Batman Wrist Shooting Grappling Hook Toy

Those Heroes World catalogs were fascinating. Even as I kid I had to wonder if it wouldn't have been cheaper to just photograph the merchandise instead of paying artists -- even student artists -- to draw them all. But maybe here we see the reason why: even a piece of junk can look cool in an illust...

Re: New Mezco Figure

Okay, I'm pretty slow on the uptake, because I just realized that's actually TWO figures. One is hard plastic with sculpted muscles, etc. and the other has a cloth costume with chubby arms and legs like a baby doll. Two concepts for an as-yet-undecided product, or two different offerings? Not that I...

Re: Bringing the Bat Boat in line with the Batmobile: The Aqua Bat

The accents on the trailer are a nice touch, too, evoking the cycle sidecar.

Thumbs up from the "other" Aqua-Bats!

Re: Fans of The Shadow?

Big fan of The Shadow, and it's interesting you led off the thread with a Steranko image, because he's a big reason. Those paperbacks of the 70s with his cover art were gorgeous, and his long chapter on the Pulps in "The Steranko History of the Comics" got me obsessed with finding out more about pul...

Re: Batman 1966 Tribute Commercials Bradesco Seguros

I love how it's everyone's first impulse to call Batman at the first sign of trouble. I fell off a stool! Call Batman! The frisbee's on the roof again! Call Batman! "American Ninja Warrior" is a re-run! Call Batman! Interesting that even though everyone in town has Batman's direct number, he's never...

Re: Anybody restore a Corgi 267 Batmobile?

Cool, that's the link I was going to use as a guide all those years ago, and Toytinker would've been my source for parts (looks like it's gone, now). You're ahead of the game with a Robin included. The Boy Wonder tended to go missing, since he neglected to follow Batman's advice and wear a seatbelt....

Re: Anybody restore a Corgi 267 Batmobile?

If you mean you didn't know there were "flaws" as a kid, I'm in the same boat. In retrospect I can see the dimensions are somewhat off, but compared to half-hearted efforts like the plastic Mego Batmobile, it was spot on. Yes, the "chain cutter" (and the gaping groove it necessitated) are kind of od...

Re: Anybody restore a Corgi 267 Batmobile?

I agree the Corgi has a charm despite, or maybe because of, its flaws. I had one as a kid and I still haven't nailed down which edition it was. I know it was not a first generation, because it came with the trailer and boat. ( I always wondered why the boat wasn't destroyed when Batman fired up the ...

Re: Anybody restore a Corgi 267 Batmobile?

Some years ago there was something of a niche community on the internet devoted to restoring Corgi Batmobiles. I remember a couple of sites that specialized in selling the various original parts and figures, and at least one guy who would do the whole thing for you (they usually also had parts for 0...

Re: I think Dozier rolled the dice with Gorshin

I think it's safe to say the younger audience was a key target demographic for the show, and when I was a kid I didn't know who any of those guys were. Admittedly i didn't discover the show until syndication, since I was a toddler when it went off the air in 69 , so maybe they were better known 10 y...

Re: I’m Sorry VICTOR BUONO, I Was Wrong About You

I would say that to the extent The Riddler was fun at all, it was because Frank played him in a Joker-like mode. There was nothing in the comics to suggest such a manic personality, and if he'd been all that fun, he'd have been used more than -- what? -- three times in 20 years. Now the Riddler has ...

Re: I’m Sorry VICTOR BUONO, I Was Wrong About You

When I first saw Hamill as The Trickster on the 90s "Flash" series i thought, "he's channeling Gorshin's Riddler!" Then when I heard his Joker on BTAS, I thought, "Hey, it's the Trickster again!" So for me, Hamill's Joker is Gorshin's Riddler twice removed. I don't think it's a coincidence that the ...

Re: Adam's Batman in Battle of the Pop Culture TV Heroes

I love me some SMDM, and it's cool to see the work that went into the designs, but Steve comes off as a real jerk using his bionics to whip up on my other heroes. (And hey, if he's gonna be a rat anyway, surely he can throw Kirk further than that. This is still "trim Shatner" after all. )

Re: New Mezco Figure

I get the "big head" approach when a figure's done in "caricature" mode (I love the Funko bobblehead), but this one introduces a "realism" that suggests dwarfism, not caricature. It doesn't help that I think the facial likeness is "off" as well. I don't need a figure of "Batman starring Billy Barty....
