Re: Batman Animated figure

If they were, I'd have been in the poor house long ago.

As it is, I'm constantly about a week away.

Re: Batman Animated figure

I can understand the ones that represent real people easier than I can the ones that represent cartoon characters with established designs. Sure, I happen to think every "James Bond" actor looks the same in that format, and the lack of mouths and sometimes noses, and the same round eyes on everyone,...

Re: Batman Animated figure

I confess I don't understand stuff like this. The Bruce Timm version of Batman is already a highly stylized design: the little square head, the huge shoulders and chest, the spindly little legs. I happen to really like it, but inarguably it's not a "realistic" portrayal: it's a stylized cartoon, and...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

That's an interesting idea about a possible uncredited collaborator. I used to wonder if the sudden shift in style was due to some kind of health event, or just age, but it wasn't a gradual decline, more like another Jim Aparo overnight replaced the first, and went on for years. (Insert McCartney-es...

Re: New art commission: Dean Cain Superman vs. John Shea Lex Luthor by Chris Williams

I can see hints of Cain...the vaguely "Asian" eyes, the nose, the long hair in back (so 90s!) but the suit confuses the issue. It's like if you put Indiana Jones in a hoodie and sweatpants...without the wardrobe to aid in recognition, there's no room for anything but perfection in the facial likenes...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

Aparo, of whom I was a big fan, always overpowered his penciler on the rare occasion that he inked someone's work. I only remember him inking John Byrne on the first issue of the "Untold Legend of The Batman," but yes, he did overpower the pencils, there. That being said, I thought they made a good...

This one would have made a lot more sense.

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

I see Aparo or maybe Adams inked by Aparo. The extra-long ears and narrow face are almost inching us into Wrightson territory. But however you slice it, very Bronze Age. I wish there were more items with a BA vibe to them, which means not just the traditional colors but also a physique that says "a...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

Can't go wrong with Aparo either, but from that photo it looks more "Adams" than any figure or statue to date that's actually had "Neal Adams Batman" on the label. Either way a strong Bronze Age vibe. Thumbs up from me, though I don't have room for more statues. :|

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

Not sure why he's in combat mode in the Batcave, but I'm getting an awesome Neal Adams vibe off that second one. Are they pricey?

Re: ‘66 poster promoting the yet to be released show

That being said, I think that people claiming that Miller’s Batman is the “only Batman” have taken it too far. It is one of the many interpretations of the character, and should be treated equally with the others, like West’s Batman or the Batman of the golden age. Its worth noting that "Dark Knigh...

Re: ‘66 poster promoting the yet to be released show

That's an interesting take, but indifference and/or ignorance isn't the same as active dislike or even hate. Among the older crowd (the only one, alas, I can speak from), anti-Kane sentiment stems from the revelation that Kane engaged in a lifelong campaign of disinformation, promoting his own (not ...

Re: ‘66 poster promoting the yet to be released show

I’ve noticed there’s not a lot of love for Bob Cane in the Batman world nowadays. Is that because there’s a feeling that he ripped off Bill Finger? Like the song says, it's "more than a feeling," but yes, that's a big part of the general anti-Kane sentiment. Probably not the ideal forum to get into...

Re: ‘66 poster promoting the yet to be released show

You have to wonder who would promote a show using an image of the star getting conked in the head. And with the only " ad copy" being written in small text on the sole of a shoe. Not exactly the most inspiring piece of Batman or advertising art ever. On the other hand, it certainly seems to be in gr...

If it's any consolation, he did get to play Superman.
