Re: GI Joe 12" figures

The "life like hair" thing is really weird, when you think about it. What was the rationale for that? Did they do a focus group with kids who said they'd be more willing to buy action figures if only they had hair that felt real? I kind of "got" the hair on top: arguably it mimicked the bristly feel...

Re: New Batman Cover statue Sideshow

There were two "tabloid" issues that featured photo galleries in the back. The first was DC Limited Collector's Edition #25, with the famous "running" Batman by Neal Adams (a recycled splash from "The Joker's 5-Way Revenge"). That one had a feature on the inside back cover called "Batman on the Scre...

Re: New Batman Cover statue Sideshow

Just noticed it's done at a tiny scale, so maybe that accounts somewhat for the crudeness of the figure. On the other hand, it makes the price outlandish. I'm not understanding that striped base: it looks like an area rug, and Batman looks like he's standing on the door to a storm cellar. And I just...

Re: New Batman Cover statue Sideshow

One of my favorite covers ever, but I am totally not digging that sculpt. It doesn't even look finished.

Sideshow has really fallen since the days I got their 12-inch Bond figures.

Re: BURT WARD"S STAR ON WALK OF FAME_ MY COVERAGE

There's the "Batgirl" (unmasked) at the podium (probably Menounos) and a second, masked and seated Batgirl in front of her.

Technically, there's also two Robins on the scene. :D

Re: FUNKO 1966 Batman 18" POP! LE 700 Figure Released and SOLD OUT!!!

The thing with Beanie Babies was that people who didn't even like them were buying them up in the expectation they'd increase in value, and profits would be made. Is that going on with the Pops, too? Because if so, it's gonna get ugly again.

If they were, I'd have been in the poor house long ago.

As it is, I'm constantly about a week away.

Re: Batman Animated figure

I can understand the ones that represent real people easier than I can the ones that represent cartoon characters with established designs. Sure, I happen to think every "James Bond" actor looks the same in that format, and the lack of mouths and sometimes noses, and the same round eyes on everyone,...

Re: Batman Animated figure

I confess I don't understand stuff like this. The Bruce Timm version of Batman is already a highly stylized design: the little square head, the huge shoulders and chest, the spindly little legs. I happen to really like it, but inarguably it's not a "realistic" portrayal: it's a stylized cartoon, and...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

That's an interesting idea about a possible uncredited collaborator. I used to wonder if the sudden shift in style was due to some kind of health event, or just age, but it wasn't a gradual decline, more like another Jim Aparo overnight replaced the first, and went on for years. (Insert McCartney-es...

Re: New art commission: Dean Cain Superman vs. John Shea Lex Luthor by Chris Williams

I can see hints of Cain...the vaguely "Asian" eyes, the nose, the long hair in back (so 90s!) but the suit confuses the issue. It's like if you put Indiana Jones in a hoodie and sweatpants...without the wardrobe to aid in recognition, there's no room for anything but perfection in the facial likenes...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

Aparo, of whom I was a big fan, always overpowered his penciler on the rare occasion that he inked someone's work. I only remember him inking John Byrne on the first issue of the "Untold Legend of The Batman," but yes, he did overpower the pencils, there. That being said, I thought they made a good...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

I see Aparo or maybe Adams inked by Aparo. The extra-long ears and narrow face are almost inching us into Wrightson territory. But however you slice it, very Bronze Age. I wish there were more items with a BA vibe to them, which means not just the traditional colors but also a physique that says "a...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

Can't go wrong with Aparo either, but from that photo it looks more "Adams" than any figure or statue to date that's actually had "Neal Adams Batman" on the label. Either way a strong Bronze Age vibe. Thumbs up from me, though I don't have room for more statues. :|
