Re: Arlen Schumer Article On The Show

So, it seems there were always a great deal of myths told about the status of the early 60s Batman comics and ultimately, that also shines a light on any true influence/impact the TV series' had on it Fair enough, but I think it's undeniable that the show accounted for a boost in comic book sales o...

Re: Arlen Schumer Article On The Show

Obviously not a big fan. I enjoy Arlen's book and his various magazine articles, but I've never shared his (and others') sense of indignation regarding the '66 series and its comedic approach to the Caped Crusader. I'm old enough to have lived through an era where fans (like me) of comics and ...

Re: Jada 1/18 Batmobile

Yeah, they mean "beacon." We used to make the same mistake when I was a kid, calling the flashing lights on a police car the " siren". The lights definitely make this. Not sure how I feel about a chrome steering wheel, and I always imagined more under the hood, but it's a very nice item for the money.

Re: Guess What I’m Getting for Christmas! - The Green Hornet Serials!!

I think you'll enjoy the Superman serials, they're goofy fun. I did find the first serial's "Spider Lady" an underwhelming villain, but Lyle Talbot's Lex Luthor makes up for it in the sequel (when Talbot showed up as Commissioner Gordon in the second Batman serial, I wanted to yell, "Don't trust him...

Re: 1965 BAT preview

Yeah, I can see this scene playing out in households around the country: "Dad, I need to stay up and watch that Batman show when it comes on! And you need to go buy a color TV!" This is a great promo, but it really shows how much difference music can make. The scenes with no music, and the fight sce...

Re: ADVANCE REVIEW: Dig Diamond’s Burt Ward DICK GRAYSON Bust

I can see some Kate in there, yes. And "Charlie's Angels" probably has a lot more sales appeal than "Square Pegs." This is the same thing that happened with the Adam bust: nice concept drawing, but the sculptor apparently never got to see it. Good thing they put it on that bat-themed base, sin...

Re: Guess What I’m Getting for Christmas! - The Green Hornet Serials!!

There's been tons of books written about every possible aspect of Star Wars, obviously, but if you're interested in a digestible overview of the series' various inspirations, both thematically, structurally and design-wise, I'd recommend Mary Henderson's "Star Wars: The Magic Of Myth." It goes into ...

Not seeing much Burt Ward there, but it's a so-so likeness of Jamie Gertz.

Re: Guess What I’m Getting for Christmas! - The Green Hornet Serials!!

Lucas wanted to do a Flash Gordon movie but couldn't get the rights, so he came up with "Star Wars," which is close enough (and no need to split the profits with King Features!). Check out the "princess hair." https://static1.squarespace.com/static/4f209325d09a4f024c85b060/t/5122e4f3e4b0cbd2cf2cc5f6...

Re: Is your Favorite Movie Celebrating an Anniversary in 2019?!

Now I wish I'd saved one of those newspaper ads. Years later I realized the FYEO poster sparked something of a controversy and several papers took the same approach. In fact maybe my town's paper just used a "family friendly" version of the artwork that was distributed around the country. In a way i...

Re: Is your Favorite Movie Celebrating an Anniversary in 2019?!

Silent Night, Deadly Night Wow, I'd forgotten that one! When it came out, I was living in an upright town where concerned citizens drove it out of the theater in short order as an "abomination" and an affront to cherished American ideals. I mean, really, Santa Claus as a serial killer? :o In 1981, ...

Re: Is your Favorite Movie Celebrating an Anniversary in 2019?!

Our local Regal cinemas (and likely the whole chain) is also showing "Wizard of Oz" on the 27th, 29th and 30th. Other anniversary screenings this year at Regal theaters will include "True Grit" (50 years), "Alien" (40 years), "When Harry Met Sally" (30 years), "My Fair Lady" (55 years) and "Shawshan...

Re: Is your Favorite Movie Celebrating an Anniversary in 2019?!

I could go on and on about Bond. I joined a 007 board and thought it would be similar to the Batboard. Boy, was I wrong. A bunch of foul mouthed know it alls. No fun, took everything so seriously. I stayed a month and had enough! Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. For sure some boards (and ind...

Re: Is your Favorite Movie Celebrating an Anniversary in 2019?!

Pretty sure "Gone With The Wind" (1939) must be somebody's favorite. For me, that year bought "Dodge City", which as an Errol Flynn fan is high on my list. Got to see OHMSS on the big screen finally last year, and as Moonraker was my first Bond in a theater, seeing it there again this year would sen...
