http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/movievillains.jpg Yes, having finished our discussion of Season One, it's time for us to discuss "Batman: The Movie"! Re: The First Batman Record

Just how many tie-in records were there? I keep finding out about more of them! I know about the West, Ward, and Gorshin records; Dickie Goodman's "Batman and his Grandmother"; and the "Jan and Dean meet Batman" album. (All of them are on YouTube, of course!) Oh, and the soundtrack album (bought MP3...

Re: To the Batpoles podcast: Surveying Season One and Sampling Semple

Thanks guys! Yes, we're girding ourselves for a quality slide in season two. Archer part one --- shudder. Part two, in my opinion, was somewhat of a return to form. But to know there's stuff like Fingers (Liberace) on the horizon... Seems the easy answer is that Semple stepping back and Charles Hoff...

To the Batpoles podcast: Surveying Season One and Sampling Semple

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/overpenguinsshoulder.jpg In this episode, we wrap up season one with some overall takes on the whole season: things that were established or evolved during the season, and things we maybe haven't taken enough notice of, such as the cinematography ("deep" sho...

Re: Fine Finny Fiends: Oh, the sexism!

This is hilarious! We're talking about beauty contests and jumping out of cakes and yet, no one mentions the cliffhanger trap where the henchman are pushing on the blower fan and Julie is checking the thermometer!!! We do mention it in the podcast! I almost wonder, though, if Julie Gregg was ...

Re: Fine Finny Fiends: Oh, the sexism!

And Julie Gregg IMO wins the award for best *acting* job by a moll in the series as her Marilyn Monroe imitation is anything but her usual range. She had me fooled so much for years that's why I didn't recognize her as the French nightclub singer (wearing the same gown no less) in the movie, which ...

Fine Finny Fiends: Oh, the sexism!

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/finefinnyfiends.jpg In our latest To the Batpoles! podcast, we close out season one with "Fine Finny Fiends" and "Batman Makes the Scenes" -- an arc that's somewhat difficult to watch due to its sexist attitudes (a woman jumping out of a cake!) but delivers ...

Bookworm! Giant cookbook! General awesomeness!

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/bookworm.jpg Just how awesome is the Bookworm arc? We count the ways on the latest "To the Batpoles!" podcast: http://tothebatpoles.libsyn.com/021-bookworm-and-the-bat-eared-boobs It's sad that we only got the one Bookworm arc. On the other hand, the odds ar...

Re: King Tut/Victor Buono: What's your opinion?

Interesting. As I say in the podcast, as a kid I felt like every King Tut episode was the same -- like watching a succession of Pepe le Pew cartoons. This first one strikes me as OK but I'll see how I feel watching the season two appearances.

King Tut/Victor Buono: What's your opinion?

In the latest "To the Batpoles" podcast, we discuss King Tut's debut ("The Curse of Tut" and "The Pharaoh's in a Rut") and the fact that some Bat-fans are crazy about him, while he rubs others the wrong way. What's your feeling? Was Buono a genius? Is King Tut a great villain, or annoying? http://to...

To the Batpoles podcast: Riddler in "The Ring of Wax" & "Give 'em the Axe"

In Frank Gorshin ’s third turn as the Riddler , the Prince of Puzzlers follows a very clear plan toward his goal of finding the Lost Treasure of the Incas, while taking credit for stuff Shakespeare wrote. Company man Batman , meanwhile, lauds the Incas' culinary achievements. Tim and Paul watch this...

Podcast: Purrrrrfect! Julie Newmar's first appearance as Catwoman

In the latest episode of TO THE BATPOLES, we discuss the first appearance of Catwoman -- lovely Julie Newmar -- on Batman ‘66! At last the show gives us a strong female character -- but what do we mean by that, exactly? Also, how lines that strike adults as "what a square Batman is" jokes also worke...

New Podcast episode: False Face!

False Face! Is this arc of Batman ‘66 one of the show’s best, or “a bomb”? (who would think such a thing?) On the latest “To the Batpoles!” podcast, Tim and Paul discuss Malachi Throne’s, er… appearance on the show. You couldn’t tell who it was, but who could have done it better? http://tothebatpole...
