Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #107: Archie Meets Batman, We Meet a Listener

I wonder what the thinking is behind the '66 Batman crossovers. Clearly one made perfect sense (you can guess which one I'm referring to), but the others remind me of the kind of ideas children throw around, where they have characters having no natural connection to each other (in origin, tone, or a...

Re: RIP Seymour Cassell aka "Cancelled"

Seymour Cassel will be missed. My earliest memory of him was the Green Hornet crossover, but I certainly remember his work with John Cassavetes, as well as significant TV guest spots. Rarely the same kind of performance twice.

Today, March 30, 1939, the first appearance of Batman in Detective #27.
Although this Alex Ross painting is several years old, it is being used again for another version of Detective #27:

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #106: The Funny Script Felonies (w/John S. Drew!)

It says something when a podcast about a TV series is more entertaining than the series its covering. I believe Paul said the Joker was acting like a 6-year old, and I guess that's the general belief about season three Joker, who has a range of cartoon villain to whining man-child. In fact, in Joel ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #103: Pop vs Camp: Which is Batman ’66?

Paul: no, I don't think you were browbeating me at all. I will say this: the idea of "interpretation trumps intention" does not hold much water when the creative process usually has at its root a vision and/or message meant to be understood and accepted by the audience. Most works of art are not int...

Re: John Astin appears on the Gilbert Gottfried podcast!

When I was about 10 or so, I started noticing the change of actors. I was always fascinated by the music, so his episode has a special place in my heart what with what I call the anniversary Battheme and the underwater music for the fight scene. Both of which written and performed ONLY for that epi...

Re: Anybody restore a Corgi 267 Batmobile?

http://www.batmobile.free.fr/English/Body/Bodystyles.htm After doing some reading this evening, I discovered they painted the 1st corgis flat black because that’s the way the Batmobile was before the show came out. That leads me to believe that Corgi was on board before the show even started. I als...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #105: Fifty Ways to Wreck the Joker

To channel Dr. Zachary Smith..."Oh, the pain...the pain!" You would have thought Dozier learned a lesson that villain team-ups were not such a grand idea, since the movie--with four of the Rogue's Gallery--failed to be a runaway hit with audiences. While there were other factors leading to the disap...

Animated suspension, High C? Yes. Yes he was. Thanks for the clarification. If Burton did a Peanuts movie, Charlie Brown would murder Lucy with a giant football and Snoopy would be a half-human, half-dog vowing revenge on Charlie for making him the mutant freak that he is. Hard pass. You temp...

Re: A January 1966 article on the impact of Batman

Well, Thomas was no soothsayer, in that it was common for a surprise hit to inspire low-quality bandwagoning / imitations that crashed and burned quickly. In film history, the second Universal's horror films were successful, other studios--from Paramount to RKO--all wanted their own monster to explo...

On to the next life for Beverly Owen.

I think she and Pat Priest were pretty evenly matched (and good) in their most famous role, as I never preferred one over the other.

Also notice they were giving away photos of Batman and Robin in the Batmobile. It's in the ad near Robin, kinda hard to read.
Such an unusual, cool ad. Back in the day, I would have flipped to come across that in a newspaper.
