Re: Batman beats drugs

In "Marsha, Queen of Diamonds," Batman fights off the effect of a dose of love potion administered by a dart shot from a Cupid statue. Marsha sics her goons on Batman and Robin, and during the ensuing batfight, she reloads Cupid and drugs Robin, who's too inexperienced to resist. Batman then relucta...

Re: Why were the Chandel episodes everyone's favorite?

Aunt Harriet was added to the show as a female "chaperone," to eliminate any impression that the relationship between millionaire and teenage ward was anything but wholesome. (I'd say "platonic," but Plato approved of the kinds of relationships Aunt Harriet was there to prevent.) I think the whole "...

Re: My Personalized Batphone Ringtone

I use the "batspin" sting as my text message alert. The guy sitting next to me on a flight the other day recognized it right away, and said he'd have the Batman theme stuck in his head all day. :)

Re: Title Sequence Villains

Clayface is in there, too. The "scaly" bad guy is a one-shot villain called King Cobra, who appeared in a 1961 story that introduced the original Silver Age Bat-Girl (not Barbara Gordon, but Betty Kane, neice of Kathy "Batwoman" Kane). The story was reprinted in a Batman Annual story in spring of 19...

Re: Batman Crossover in Dick Tracy

This is great stuff! I haven't read newspaper comics in years, but I was always a Dick Tracy fan as a kid. Artist Joe Staton (co-reator of E-Man, past artist on JSA and Doom Patrol, among many others) and writer Mike Curtis are having a ball, resurrecting old characters from the strip's early years ...

Re: Why didn't I see this before?

Donna Loren was spokeswoman for Dr. Pepper and she also was in the rotating cast of house singers on "Shindig," the teen-oriented musical-showcase show that Batman replaced in ABC's Thursday night schedule in January 1966. Here's a clip of her doing a great cover version of "Shaking All Over," with ...

Re: Ra's al Ghul in the 60's

What about Michael Rennie? (If we can time-warp Ra's al Ghul back to the 60s, why not also undo the unfortunate Sandman episodes. which failed to capitalize on Rennie's acting talents?) And while there are many possible candidates to play Talia, I nominate Lana Wood (Natalie's sister, and Adam West'...

Re: So were any of the 66 villians destined to be awful?

I find Milton Berle hard to watch in just about everything, but I also agree with Andy's "Big Miss" assessment on Louie as a character. A "normal" Gotham crime lord would have been a good addition to the villain mix, but to be a worthy bat-adversary, he'd need some kind of edge. (Ma Parker and her b...

Re: Question about Batman Costumes on the show vs the comics

Thanks for the correction on the green costume's debut date, Hecate. I knew Catwoman returned in a Lois Lane story, but I never read the tale; I'd assumed she was in the green outfit that appeared in '68. I should've known better. I knew the green outfit was short-lived, but (I guess because of the ...

This is shocking and sad. I'll remember Ghostdog as a friendly, active member of this bat-community. I'm so sorry to hear of this tragic loss. I pray that Billy and both his sons find peace, and I extend sincere condolences to all who knew him, especially those who'd come to know him off-board.

Re: Question about Batman Costumes on the show vs the comics

Conventional wisdom goes that white and the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) are heroic (hence Superman, Captain Marvel, Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man). Conversely, black and the secondary colors (purple, orange, green) are supposedly villainous (hence the army of baddies you listed). Ther...
