Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #87: An Eggsasperating Eggsercise

One thing I disagreed with was Paul's assessment of Anne Baxter's performance. I thought it was too far over the top and it didn't grab me at all. I don't like these episodes much, but I consider Olga a highlight amid the season three dreariness. She is very, very cartoony, with her Boris-and-Natas...

Re: Another comic story that was the basis of a Batman 66 episode.

A couple of other possible connections between Batman #176 and the development of the TV series: The cover touts five of the seven stories included in the issue. The other two are "Parasols of Plunder," the Penguin adventure mentioned in my previous post, and a 1956 story titled "The Caveman at Larg...

Re: Another comic story that was the basis of a Batman 66 episode.

Was there not a mid sixties comic which reprinted some old stories (Joker's Utility Belt amongst them), which indicates current comics (albeit reprints) were being used as reference material? It's almost certain that the stack of issues Dozier and Semple used for research included Batman #176 (cove...

Re: Caesar Romero Joker Nano

I found a Joker fig at Walmart. Per photo below, its backing card is a little bent, but the figure itself and the blister pack are in fine shape. If you'd like to give it a home, PM me and I'll ship it off.

Re: Script: PLEASE OMIT TOMATOES (a.k.a. "Louie the Lilac")

Had to look that last word up - it's French and means "pout" or "grimace" (and should be spelled with one "e"). If I recall my high school French correctly, "moué" would apply to a pouty man, and "mouée" to a grimace-y woman. Compare to fiancé (groom-to-be) and fiancée (bride-to-be); likewise "née"...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #85: "Batman '89" Turns our Heads

I haven't listened yet (I will! I will!) but Batman '89 is one of my least favorite things ever. It drives me crazy that Burton worked out so much of the tricky mechanics of making a noir, post-'66 Batman work onscreen — and then just let the "story" unspool in an aimless series of stupefying set-pi...

Re: Script: PLEASE OMIT TOMATOES (a.k.a. "Louie the Lilac")

Great catch on the discrepancy in the amount of the flower-show prize! ltl-03.jpg How much? Per my earlier comment that the draft script makes Louie out to be a low-rent archcriminal: A $5,000 caper is less rinky-dink than one that bags $500, but it's still kinda chintzy, even by 1967 standards. :)

Re: Good acting by secondary characters in the show

Tol Avery does a good job fussing and fuming in both of his appearances, as bank president Prescott Belmont in the Joker/Maharajah two-parter and the deputy mayor (and Tut lookalike) in the Lisa Carson episodes.

Re: Script: PLEASE OMIT TOMATOES (a.k.a. "Louie the Lilac")

I agree with previous posters' comments on the poor characterization of our heroes. (The running gag about the rubber hydrants is a great example; you could see what it was building up to pretty much from the get-go, but the circumstances required for the payoff would NEVER happen in our version of ...

Re: Fourth Season Myth

I'd have never guessed there were 100 Batfink cartoons, but I've seen more than a few of them. There was never any Wham-O product placement that I can recall. Of course, there was never any cereal in Bullwinkle cartoons, either, but General Mills produced them as a vehicle for selling Cheerios. Batf...

Re: What all is there of the 60's Batman Series?

If we're including non-Batman material featuring Adam West, the Lookwell! TV pilot is hilarious, and shares much of the same sensibility of Batman -- i.e., Adam plays a character who's funny because he has no idea how funny he is.

Great roundup, Ben!
