Re: TO THE BATPOLES #131: 1970: Batman goes solo and gets spooky

Thanks for the show. There is a book called DC Implosion that goes more into the economics of comics if you're interested. It deals with the late 70s, though. While obviously, I don't remember the entire book, I seem to recall it stated that some exec with Warner Brothers suggested just reprinting o...

Re: BAT 77 Podcast - The Demon of Gothos Mansion (Batman #227)

When I read the letters commenting on Batman 227, I was surprised in those pre-internet, pre-history of comics collections that so many readers in 1970 had seen Detective 31. I first read "Demon of Gothos Mansion" in the Batman's Strangest Cases treasury and never saw the iconic cover unti...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #130: Reading fan letters in the Wayne living room

I really enjoyed listening to Ben talking about the sets. Thanks for having him on the show and letting him share his knowledge. The letters book sounds like fun, but, like you, I wonder about the authenticity of the letters. I don't think I've ever ran across one. You guys may not remember making t...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

I added 9 comics from the late 50s and 60s to my collection this week. Since Batman is my favorite character, six were Batman issues. I also got two Superman issues and a Spider-Man issue. Let me know if anyone wants to see those and I'll post them. Batman 126 September 1959 cover by Curt Swan and S...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

I've added these to my collection this week. Detective Comics 239 January 1957 World's Finest 117 May 1961 Robin 80th Anniversary Special - 70s Variant cover by Kaare Andrews I also got a non-Batman related item I wanted a mention. I got Dell's Lone Ranger 37 from July 1951. This is now the third ol...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

Finally added the 1984 Oreo Giveaway to my reprint collection. Congratulations on that. I remember what a thrill it was getting it back in 1984. Back then, we didn't have access to a lot of golden age Batman stuff. I was also quite shocked to see Batman chucked crooks off roofs and knocking them in...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

I got the following back issues this week. Batman 110 September 1957 Batman 124 June 1959 Batman 140 June 1961 Detective Comics 274 December 1959 The real downside with Batman 140...my consecutive issue run starts with 142, and, due, I guess to the early appearance of the Betty Kane Batgirl, 141 is ...

Good luck with everything that is going in.

Plus, you never should have watched the two Legends of the Super Heroes shows back-to-back. I knew it would kill your enthusiasm for the podcast.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #128: Roast Godzilla

Considering what a turkey of a show the roast was, I'm sure there is a roast turkey joke somewhere, but I can't think of one....at least that wouldn't be as bad as some of the jokes in the show. Even though I suffered through the first show, I tuned in for more punishment by watching the roast. Some...

Re: New Batman Cover statue Sideshow

Thanks for sharing.

Sometimes these look better in hand or after they've been released. I don't think I'll pre-order, but I'll still check out an unboxing video to see it it is something I would want. I love that cover and that Batman logo.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #127: It’s a “Challenge” Just to Sit Through “Legends”

gothosmansion: I've read a few of the Wein/Wrightson Swampi stories and own reprints of the Englehart/Rogers DETECTIVE run (the highlights, anyway), but we are moving into post-'66 BATMAN/DETECTIVE as a podcast topic right now, so I'll finally crack those reprints open! I know, I know, we're just a...

Re: Ralph Garman's Batman Collection on MeTV

Thanks for the heads-up. I encourage everyone to go by metv.com after the show airs. They usually have a couple of scenes on the site that were cut from the show for time. I know we'll all want to see more of Ralph's collection. I was blown away by what we saw on the TV show blu-rays.
