Same material, different costumes.

Re: WABC-TV 4:30 Movie Batman Promo (Link)

Having grown up just outside NY City I certainly remember the channel 7 (WABC) movies. Back in the 60's and well into the late 70's most local stations showed movies when their respective networks weren't airing their programming. I also remember channel 9's (WOR) million Dollar Movie that used the ...

I'm unclear. Is that not Adam, Burt and Yvonne in this commercial? I recognize Howie Horwitz's voice as the narrator.

The best of the worst

We've all discussed who some of our least favorite villains and villainesses were. But I was thinking, is there some (pardon the term) good that came out of the lamest of the lame Bat-Villains? Was there something about their death trap, their plot or their hench-persons that you liked? Let's try to...

Re: The Puzzler

One can tell that these episodes were quickly thrown together and little thought was given to the costumes. I consider Puzzler to be the second worst (first place goes to Minerva) "villain" to appear on the show. But I am glad they didn't try to put Maurice Evans in Gorshin's green tights ...

Re: Say Goodbye to Your Bootlegs!

I transferred mine to video a few months back. I will wait to see the quality of the official released versions are until I decide to delete what I have. Not that the quality of my collection is anything to brag about. The colors are faded, the episodes are either edited or time compressed and of co...

Re: Batman TV series DVD set in 2014!!

I am thrilled beyond words. Now I can get rid of my collection of lousy copies I made from TV broadcasts full of edits and commercials!! I am glad they decided to issue them on DVD's and not Blu-Rays. Only TV shows and movies shot in HD look good on Blu-Ray. Counting the days until it is released!!

Re: Frank Gorshin and Richard Widmark

Hmmm...intriguing. I usually have him be a member of the Irish Mob back in the 30's and 40's as a younger man. Drugs, etc. but that wouldn't fit into the 1966 Batman universe, which never touched that. A bank robber, safe cracker and occasional knife man would be good for him. With a reputation for...

Re: Biggest "Star" When Playing A Villain

I think Van Johnson was considered a big, albeit fading star at the time. Funny thing is all the top Bat-Villains (Riddler, Joker, Penguin & Catwoman) were played by hard working actors better know for their fame on the small screen rather than the silver screen. None of them had ever won an Emm...

I thought we all learned from the 2004 movie "The Incredibles" that capes can cause problems. Look what happened to Syndrome?

Re: John Astin May Have Noot Been Good As The Riddler, But .

For unclear reasons Gorshin did not want to play Riddler during the second season. Actually, the reasons are rather clear. There has been a widely circulated memo from William Dozier's files in which he rejects Frank's request for a raise from $3,500 to $5,000. Gorshin's new reps at the time, the W...

Re: John Astin May Have Noot Been Good As The Riddler, But .

There is not a line that comes from Astin's mouth that I cannot imagine coming from Gorshin. I think, Riddler Fan, that you are confusing writing with performance. Each actor tackling the same role will craft it their own unique approach, aka the wringing hands, cackling, and so forth. Astin was no...

Re: John Astin May Have Noot Been Good As The Riddler, But .

The ONLY thing I've ever seen Mr. Astin do that I didn't think was wonderful was his performance as the Riddler. The script appears to have been written with Gorshin in mind, with no changes made to suit a new variation. His overblown antics strike me as awkward. He appears to be trying too hard, b...
