Re: Penguins monacle0 how does it stay in?
Back when monocles were in vogue, I gather you just squinted/scrunched your cheek to hold it in. Possibly it helped that they were mostly worn by aristocrats, who usually held their noses high. :-) Usually you saw them attached to a cord, with the other end attached...where?...to a shirt button, may...

Re: Billy Loyd JR sad news
What terrible, terrible news. Billy was a hugely talented and (on this board, anyway, which is the only way I knew him) thoroughly pleasant individual to interact with, and I'll miss his posts. Depression is a devastating thing. Prayers to his family and especially his injured son. Billy, I hope you...

Re: The Boy Who Loved Batman (book) Long read
Well, I will say this: It did get really tiresome after a while having every single newspaper or magazine article about comic books start with "Zap! Bam! Pow!" as if that was the alpha and omega of comics. The '66 series put the medium on the map for a lot of the public, but it also define...

Re: The Boy Who Loved Batman (book) Long read
Uslan doesn't "own Batman," but he does possess certain film rights, dating back to the late 70s I believe when he (and someone) formed the "Batfilms" company. He has no say in what Warners, Fox or anyone else do with the TV show. I've considered getting this book a few times out...

Re: Joker's Moustache - To Airbrush Or Not To Airbrush?
Robin Holyisms, maybe some old-school comic fans would be sore about Joker growing a mustache, but the new crowd either wouldn't care or would consider it a blessing compared with what's actually been done to the character in recent months. I won't dignify the plot development in question by typing ...

Re: Remembering Burgess Meredith
Update: Just realized the movie I mentioned, "Rear Gunner" can be viewed in its entirety on Burgess Meredith's Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgess_Meredith I also see from this entry that Burgess was married to Paulette Goddard, which makes him my hero because that gal was...

Re: Remembering Burgess Meredith
Only Mr Meredith knew for sure why he didn't do fan conventions (though I'm not sure Romero ever did, either), but I always got the impression he really enjoyed the Penguin character and at the very least he never seemed ashamed of his work on the show. As a kid, I thought he was fabulous, though I ...

Re: Joker's Moustache - To Airbrush Or Not To Airbrush?
Not only should they not airbrush it out, but when they get around to making the action figures, they should sculpt a mustache on and paint over it with white.
This would all be so much simpler if the comic book Joker would just grow one.

Re: Welcome to the new board!
Kudos to all on the great-looking redesign for the boards! You may remember me (or not!) as Stately_Wayne; I'm taking advantage of the opportunity to give myself a new handle. My old name had at least the advantage of a tangential connection to the TV show, but I eventually got tired of referring to...
