Re: "Myths" Surrounding The Show

What's the origin of claiming the movie was supposed to precede the TV show? In looking at the trades and Adam's schedule in 1965, that would not have been possible. But wasn't the TV series screened earlier than originally planned? Had they been going to do the movie first, the TV series would sim...

Re: Script: THE CAT'S TALE, by Stephen Kandel

--Like O'Shea before him, Kandel seems to think cats can be trained to do all sorts of things. In what parts? Kandel has Slasher bringing the cat to the prison at the beginning, rather than the cat arriving on its own, so the problems are lessened there. And the deathtrap is utterly different and d...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #90: Surf's Up, Joker's Under, and Al's On

I shot a video that I posted on the Batman facebook page some time ago but I'm not sure how to extract that and post it here. If anyone can offer assistance on that, I'll be happy to upload it. I've tried .mov, mp4, and 3gp but cannot upload files with those extensions. Perhaps you could put it on ...

Re: "Myths" Surrounding The Show

Another reason for it might be that he didn't have a superhero "muscleman" body, like you would see in comics, and people exaggerate that into "Adam was fat". Not many actors are built like comic-book superheroes, and I suspect the perception that the fans demanded MUSCULAR filme...

TO THE BATPOLES podcast #91: BATMANIA pt 1: Comics Fans Connect

http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/Batmania01.jpg BATMANIA was a well-made fanzine that was started by Columbia, MO, fireman Biljo White in 1964, concurrent with the introduction of New Look Batman by DC. Reading it revealed so many interesting things about the Batman fandom of the sixties th...

It should be on any Batman fan's list.

Re: Script: THE CAT'S TALE, by Stephen Kandel

Hey, everyone, just FYI -- for reasons that will become clear in next week's episode, we're bumping our episode on THE CAT'S TALE one episode later than originally planned. So you now have until August 27 to submit comments that we'll read before recording the show, and possibly quote from on the po...

Tim...you could not remember Van Williams' last name? Oh, the horror. May you find yourself strapped to a chair, with your eyes forced open A Clockwork Orange style, watching season 3 AND Legends of the Superheroes in a loop! Just got my Batman-related "Vans" mixed up! And, well...

Re: BATMANIA

Well, from continuing to read the newsletters I found the answer to my first question -- his name was William Joseph, so it's the usual English "J" pronunciation!

I'm still not sure where he rounded up his initial round of readership, though.

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #90: Surf's Up, Joker's Under, and Al's On

On the subject of the alternate music played at the hang five, the bootleg version is the same as the METV broadcasts. I do not have my bootlegs anymore, but I am sure someone here on the boards does. It would be quicker to figure out what the songs were and who performed them this way than by wait...

Re: BATMANIA

And another question -- am I gleaning correctly from the first issue that Batmania was built off another newsletter, Komix Illustrated? Batmania seems to have had a lot of resources -- many other Batfans quoted, and apparently a decent mailing list -- right from the get-go. Well, I do see that publi...

Re: BATMANIA

I'm curious about the name "Biljo". Is that "J" pronounced in the English way, the Spanish way, the Nordic way...? We're doing a "TO THE BATPOLES" on "Batmania" soon, and I don't want to pronounce it wrong!

Just glancing at the American Heritage Center listing of Dozier's archives ( https://rmoa.unm.edu/docviewer.php?docId=wyu-ah06851.xml#idm2379632 -- the Batman scripts start with box 27), I see a Ross script called "Batman Meets his Match". I don't currently have a scan of it, so I don't kn...

Script: THE CAT'S TALE, by Stephen Kandel

OK, I'm really interested in what the reaction to this one will be: The unshot script "The Cat's Tale" by False Face writer Stephen Kandel. NOTE: My recommendation is to not read this until AFTER you've listened to the just-posted TO THE BATPOLES episode 89. https://www.dropbox.c...
