TO THE BATPOLES podcast #86: "Louie, the Lilac": Please Omit Important Scenes
http://deconstructingcomics.com/Batpoles/louie1.jpg TO THE BATPOLES podcast: We discuss the episode "Louie, the Lilac" and its ancestor script "Please Omit Tomatoes"! Also, we confess our Bat-sins (for we have blasphemed against Batman '66!) and why the show attracts fans of Mar...

Re: "To the Batpoles" discussion of '66 MOVIE; Chris Gould joins us
I just wonder if there could have been a grain of truth to the story. Something like: The cancellation notice comes and Dozier gets a call from some middle management guy at NBC." We heard you got cancelled: We might be interested. What is the status of actors contracts, sets etc." Dozier...

Re: "Boy Wonder: My Life in Tights"
By the way, if you've heard any Ward interview recently, it's likely he's still exaggerating when he talks about his miracle dog food...

Re: "Boy Wonder: My Life in Tights"
Kamdan, I see your point. And yes, I don't see any compelling reason why they needed Burt in what became the stock shots of the Batmobile going in/out of the Batcave, zooming by the camera and in aerial shots. It's a lot harder to tell who's in the car in the stock footage than it is to tell whether...

Script: FASHIONS IN CRIME, by Peggy Shaw
OK, all-seeing, all-knowing message board denizens, here's our next TO THE BATPOLES script discussion topic: the never-filmed "Fashions in Crime" by Peggy Shaw: https://www.dropbox.com/s/irixkrmjepctgy7/FASHIONSINCRIMEPeggyShaw.pdf?dl=0 I've failed to find any info on Shaw. There are sever...

Re: "Boy Wonder: My Life in Tights"
Yes, Hornet, it's certainly true that Burt had a lot of impact on the Robin character! For sure, among those involved with the show, there's plenty of exaggeration and misinformation to go around (Stanley Ralph Ross, anyone?). It's striking, though, how much more shameless Burt's book is than Adam's...

"Boy Wonder: My Life in Tights"
Paul and I are now reading Burt Ward's memoir for a future TO THE BATPOLES. I've picked up from comments on the board that much of what he writes in this book should be taken with a large grain of salt. I'm not even that far in and the boasts about his sex life are already making me roll my eyes. Bu...

Re: "To the Batpoles" discussion of '66 MOVIE; Chris Gould joins us
Burt Ward may have had his facts wrong concerning Julie Newmar's absence. And wasn't it also Ward that set forth the notion (also dispelled here) that there was going to be a fourth season? I think Adam, Burt, and Yvonne at various times perpetuated that story. As we discussed on a recent episode, ...

Re: "To the Batpoles" discussion of '66 MOVIE; Chris Gould joins us
I remember seeing something somewhere about the Catwoman still for the movie being in Wayne Manor, and how that happened. Don't recall now, nor whether I knew about that at the time we made the '66 movie podcast episode. Sometimes I know something but forget to bring it up! Particularly likely to ha...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #85: "Batman '89" Turns our Heads
I haven't listened yet (I will! I will!) but Batman '89 is one of my least favorite things ever. It drives me crazy that Burton worked out so much of the tricky mechanics of making a noir, post-'66 Batman work onscreen — and then just let the "story" unspool in an aimless series of stupef...

TO THE BATPOLES podcast #85: "Batman '89" Turns our Heads
Our heads are turned by the Batman who CAN'T turn HIS head: Batman '89! We discuss how this film relates to the '66 version, and whether it looks any better 29 years later. http://ow.ly/c0Cs30k9XZf

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #83: Fitting Batman '66 into "The Caped Crusade"
The Bob Hope Christmas specials aired on January 19, 1966 and January 18, 1967. Interestingly the next Bob Hope special that aired after this one, on February 19, 1966 already capitalized on the Batman phenomena by doing a sketch spoofing the show with Martha Raye (I dare not describe it here. It's...

Re: Script: PLEASE OMIT TOMATOES (a.k.a. "Louie the Lilac")
Is " P lease O mit T omatoes pointing towards an acronym for pot (marijuana)? Given all the flower children in the actual episode it would not surprise me (I could not download the script to see if they were in the original). You may well be right! I couldn't find any other justification for t...
