Re: TO THE BATPOLES #161: A Joker for All Seasons

As I alluded to, for anyone interested in how season 1 evolved, I recommend To The Batpoles episode 136 with Dozier's 10 Rules memo. https://www.dropbox.com/s/smghrcl8phmv1aq/DOZIERtoHORWITZ27jan66.pdf?dl=0 If I'd seen it originally I must have forgotten it, or just missed this one totally. Either ...

Re: The ME-TV BATMAN Episode Discussion Thread

I wasn't sure this had enough to make it as its own topic so here it goes: Alfred vs. the Penguin---things don't work out so good. 1) His attempt at bugging the villain's umbrella fails and he barely escapes. 2) He's kidnapped and brainwashed. 3) His disguise is penetrated and he is gassed and stuff...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #160: Bat-rankings

The motivations of the already-rich villains are vague at best, the gadgets on both sides of the aisle are ridiculous and the Lady Prudence 'double-cross' alluded to at the end is barely evident in the rest of the script. I actually agree with you on the quality of Hizzoner the Penguin--my problems...

Re: SCRIPT: "THE PHANTOM PHARAOH"

I don't know they didn't just spend part of a day or two, especially before the show aired, knocking out a few paragraphs to let new writers know how the characters talked and behaved. It would have saved Semple, Horwitz and Co. a LOT of time on the back end, IMO. That is puzzling. You're right, it...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #160: Bat-rankings

then comment and tell us YOUR rankings! Londinium Trilogy----a mix of nostalgia of where I was when I first saw them plus the following qualities: the exotic environment, a lot of outdoor shots, and refreshing change of pace with the villainess's (sp?) taking an interest in Robin. Bonus points for ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #161: A Joker for All Seasons

we asked noted Bat-fan and cartoonist Ken Holtzhouser to join us in discussing Romero’s take on the Clown Prince of Crime. We also discuss how Romero compares to more recent film takes on the character, and Ken shares with us his spot-on analysis of the shifting goals of the makers of Batman and ho...

Re: SCRIPT: "THE PHANTOM PHARAOH"

Thanks for posting this one. I think I prefer it to what aired. I like Bruce getting himself out of the jar and it's interesting to read Nefertiti's bigger, more involved role. The plot's a bit repetitive with Bruce being kidnapped twice but that's not too far off from the finished version. Perhaps ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #160: Bat-rankings

I thought about this as its own topic but I don't know where it could go really, so I hope it's all right to post here. I just found this interesting: I think in a lot of SRR's scripts he has a well respected Gothamite turn out to be part of the villain's gang: Reporter Jack something or other from ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #160: Bat-rankings

2. Best Bat-fight (if you have not covered that in the past). Good suggestion! Bat-fights seem an under-examined aspect of the show. Early on, the first Joker episode and the Maharajah ones had melee style fighting, it felt like watching chaos vs the more stylized fight structure that followed. Too...

Thanks for shouting out my disagreements in advance! And thanks for using my idea of ranking the made-for-TV villains! OK, in terms of made-for-TV villains, my No.1 won't surprise anyone. 8-) 1--Siren. Granted, the femme fatale/seductress was a role Joan Collins could play in her sleep by 1967, but...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #160: Bat-rankings

And speaking of chase scenes, many a villain has attempted to steal or successfully stolen the Batmobile but not even the Joker's tricky van or Catwoman's sleek Catillac (?) can match False Face's van, it can disguise itself, comes equipped with its own missiles and with the pull of a switch someho...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #160: Bat-rankings

2--Bookworm. Roddy McDowall's characterization is mild-mannered one moment, out of control the next. But it works. Even his own henchpeople don't seem to know what to make of him at times, and Lydia sometimes genuinely seems scared of him. The writing is good, too. A criminal who is, in essence, a ...

1--Siren.
I should add, despite the lack of budget in Season 3, her lair stood out as unique.

cheers

I regret to say that both ZLONK! ZOK! ZOWIE! and BIFF! BAM! EEE-YOW! have been removed from publication by Amazon due to a claim of copyright infringement for their artwork by Warner Bros. I apologize to everyone who had invested in the books, but truly appreciate your support and enthusiasm for th...
