Re: Greetings to everyone.

Thanks for setting me straight, Scott! I never got the memo, and I've been doing it the hard way.

Re: RIP Dina Merrill

I know obituaries aren't supposed to be amusing, but reading Ms. Merrill's send-off in The New York Times , I was struck by its observation that most of her acting roles involved characters with backgrounds similar to her own -- socialites, heiresses, philanthropists, etc. The write-up cites several...

Re: DIAMOND SELECT BATPHONE

For what it's worth, I found a plastic jar about the diameter of a soda can with a screw-on lid and covered it with black duct tape that roughly matches the plastic trim in my car. Then I used velcro tape to anchor the phone to the jar lid, and inserted the jar into the cup holder. I had planned to ...

Re: Batman '66 meets Legion of Super-Heroes new comic

Legion stories from the mid-60s are pure Silver Age fantasy stuff. In fact, 1966 was the year future Marvel editor-in-chief Jim Shooter became the title's primary writer -- at the ripe age of 14! Among the innovations Shooter brought to the book was the notion of mortality and its inevitability. One...

Re: DIAMOND SELECT BATPHONE

I put mine on the desk next to my Shakespeare bust, but it just didn't look right. So I moved it to a more appropriate location.

Re: Parodied Names in the '66 series

I just found another one. In "Zelda the Great," Batman and Robin plant a bugged emerald at Hillary Stonewin's jewelry store. Hillary Stonewin is a feminized play on the name of famed gem merchant Harry Winston. The gender-swap is in keeping with Zelda herself, who was based on a male chara...

Re: What episodes am I thinking?

Joker's goons threw dart-like "sea urchin spines" at Batman and Robin in "Surf's Up, Joker's Under," too. They weren't especially thick, though -- they looked like pick-up sticks, or maybe uncooked spaghetti. But they "pierced" the duo's batsuits and were sticking out o...

Re: My 17 1/2" Bat-O-Rang

I have no idea of its rarity or value, but I've never seen one before, so I'm glad to see the photos. Thanks for sharing them. It's a very cool remnant of the 1966 boom in bat-toys and other merch, licensed and unlicensed. My only expertise on that subject is having lived through the era as a wide-e...

Re: My 17 1/2" Bat-O-Rang

If it's a round ring with 6 bat wings, I bet "Bat-O-Rang" IS the correct spelling. That description sure doesn't match any Batarang. It sounds more like a Frisbee/Aerobie-style flying toy than anything boomerang-like. It'd be great if OP could post a photo.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #57: Batman's anniversary... and our own!

I don't know anything about Well Paid Scientists, the purveyors of this edition's cover of the Batman theme, but I bet they took their names from the Dead Kennedys tune "Well Paid Scientist."

Re: Batman/Star Trek Crossovers

There are probably others, but: Grace Lee Whitney played Yeoman Janice Rand on the first season of Star Trek and King Tut's jealous moll (lady-in-waiting?) Neila in "King Tut's Coup"/"Batman's Waterloo." Sherry Jackson played Andrea the (unforgettably dressed) android in the Star...

Best of luck with the project. Here's hoping someone commandeers an abandoned guitar-pick factory and goes into business making Bat Picks!
