Re: Courtroom scenes and other bat-law questions

Well, when they had to split up the Egghead-Olga trilogy into two parts and a later episode, one of the "covering" scenes they shot for "The Ogg Couple" had Gordon saying that "Egghead is out on a technicality." What technicality I wonder helped Egghead get out to terro...

Re: April 1966 article on Frank Gorshin

All that's missing is this final "punchline".

"One funny thing about all this uproar," he said. "No one sends me riddles in the mail."

Re: Script: THE SECRET OF THE IMPOSSIBLE CRIMES, by Leonard Stadd

I need to check out Stadd's UNCLE stories again at some point but last night I did check out another script of his that had recently been aired at the time he submitted the Bat script, which was for the ABC series "Honey West." For those unfamiliar with that show, it starred Anne Francis (...

Re: April 1966 article on Frank Gorshin

Thanks for sharing. That does I think bear out a point to a degree made in an earlier thread about how Dozier was taking a risk that others might not have in going with Gorshin to open the series. Notwithstanding the parts Gorshin had done earlier he was still by his own admission in the article, th...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #108: The William Dozier Fanboy

I probably should have said that Dozier in his mind thought he could be as big a producer as Martin or Allen in 66 with all the projects he had at that point as opposed to whether he had a real shot at succeeding because I think you're right that he wasn't going to succeed with his general thinking ...

And here's an item on the original trial from the Indianapolis Star, October 8, 1931 which stresses how "many widows were victimized"!

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #108: The William Dozier Fanboy

Thanks for posting that. It's hard unfortunately to make out the text because of the reduced size of the image so I went back to the same database where that's available and looked at the original size version. Here's the text of the conviction story. "In 1930 the firm Dozier was connected with...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #108: The William Dozier Fanboy

Enjoyed listening to this. A few random thoughts here and there. 1-That amateur piano version of the theme reminded me of the trolley music from "Mister Rogers Neighborhood" and suddenly filled my mind with visions of Batman done like that show! ("It's a beautiful day in Gotham City.....

Re: Script: THE SECRET OF THE IMPOSSIBLE CRIMES, by Leonard Stadd

Some early observations on this script. 1-The opening gives us a reminder of how before a series makes the air, writers don't have a handle on what the "format" is going to be. The handwritten notation "too soon per format" (I think it says that or else "too soon for format&...

Re: A January 1966 article on the impact of Batman

I wouldn't call the real Galactica (that imposter show from the early 2000s I don't acknowledge the existence of) as dreck. It was in fact quite groundbreaking in many areas for sci-fi TV and had much more long-lasting influence on sci-fi TV than it's given credit for. (Buck Rogers on the other hand...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #102: Egghead & Olga: A Strange Way to Run a Three-Parter

I just found a copy of the libretto (script) for the original 1966 production of the Superman musical, which should help if that ever becomes the subject of a future podcast (since the 1975 TV version made a number of drastic changes). https://mega.nz/#!okMhiYCT!oJxUeAcNlRxasTNJ_FpiszBWCOoe9bOQxnMoX...

Re: It is interesting to note how many actors are best known for their Batman characters

That shows why IMDB can't always be relied on IMO. IMDB is also notorious for having false information about the careers of performers that take forever to get corrected. In this case, that sounds like it was put together by someone who only watches sci-fi TV and "cult" shows and who doesn...

Re: It is interesting to note how many actors are best known for their Batman characters

Meredith before "Batman" was a big name for his work as a stage director, and also for well-regarded film roles in "Of Mice And Men" and "The Story Of G.I. Joe" where he played war correspondent Ernie Pyle. Julie Newmar is a case of someone who had some fame before &quo...

Re: I think Dozier rolled the dice with Gorshin

Thanks for filling in some more background, Bob. It certainly helps broaden my understanding of where Gorshin stood at that point though if there wasn't in Dozier's mind a perceived risk, then there shouldn't have been a need for casting a henchmoll who was unquestionably a bigger name than Gorshin ...
