Re: Liberace Ratings Myth

My favorite bit in this episode -- which I'd long forgotten or which perhaps was edited out of syndicated broadcasts -- is the machine-gun nest, complete with sandbags and barbed wire, that the GCPD places in the theater balcony in case of trouble at Chandell's concert.

Re: Who made it into the Batcave?

One thing I never noticed until re-watching the episodes in original-airdate order: Bookworm's turn and Riddler's silent movie caper gave us two batcave interrogations of molls on consecutive weeks. What's odd about that is the different truth extraction methods used in each case: Lydia Limpet was h...

Re: Team Ups

The requirement that villains team up to get multi-part episodes in Season 3 suggests a fun missed opportunity to reunite the United Underworld members in a major caper with more room for everyone to play: Replace Lola with Catwoman in "The Sport of Penguins"/"A Horse of Another Color...

Re: Fine Finny Fiends: Oh, the sexism!

I can't say I'm sorry beauty contests have faded in popularity, but they were a big thing in the mid-60s, and this episode spoofs them pretty enjoyably. I thought the best gag was naming "Miss Natural Resources" the contest winner. (Finella ends up impersonating her in the pop-out-of-the-c...

Re: Photos of Bat Girl costume for projected 1940's Bat Man Movie serial

Great info, Andy, and the blog posts are terrific. FWIW, if the screenwriters had any plans for a Batgirl character, they would have been more than a decade ahead of comic book creators in bringing a female member to the "Bat-family." Batwoman (aka socialite Kathy Kane) was introduced in t...

Re: Batman fans must see dvd.

Never heard of this, but the original title appears to be spelled "Rat Pfink a Boo Boo." It looks to be an (ultra-) low-budget quickie spoof of Batman & Robin. This musical number gives an idea of the production values and the movie's sense of fun -- and shows our heroes on their "...

Cool. Is "In Color" your addition to the manufactured version? I can't find the original 3D logo online. Who makes it?

Yes. We lived in the NYC suburbs and my Dad worked in Manhattan. He got stuck overnight on his commuter train.

Re: Did anybody notice...???

I'm not a big fan of the Londinium trilogy, but I've been revisiting the Batgirl episodes since Yvonne's passing, and I noticed something amusing about the set designers' approach to establishing the "British-ness" of various interiors: Nearly every room has a dartboard hanging somewhere. ...

Re: Parodied Names in the '66 series

Revisiting Season 3 and "I'll Be a Mummy's Uncle," I caught a mention of "H.L. Hunter," the mining engineer Tut hired to drill for Nilanium under Wayne Manor. He's a take-off on Texas oil tycoon H.L. Hunt, who was one of the world's richest men when "Batman" was airing....

Re: Edmond Hamilton

I think I found the connection. It's a real-world example of the annoying "retcon" (retroactive continuity) trend in comics, which makes "facts" superfluous by periodically erasing and rewriting history. Hamilton gets mis-credited as Chief O'Hara's creator because he was the firs...
