Re: SDCC 2022

Whoa, that "Ben Cooper" Batman Halloween costume caught my eye!

I see it's from Rubies, but hey maybe if it's just a plastic mask and cape, even they can't mess it up too badly. Maybe.

Re: New "Bat Wheels" show for pre-schoolers

It may be heresy to say so on this board (I've got my desk items in a cardboard box and I'm ready to be escorted from the building by Security), but the only truly satisfying translation of "my" Batman to screen was in B:TAS. Everything else involves compromise. That said, yes this show lo...

New "Bat Wheels" show for pre-schoolers

Announced at SDCC was a new show aimed at the preschool audience: Bat Wheels. The idea is the Batmobile, Batwing and other vehicles owned by the bat-family have minds and personalities of their own and go off on adventures in Gotham. I was ready to laugh it off, but I have to admit I am at least not...

Re: SDCC 2022

Matt Mason was my first action figure ever. It'd be a hoot to have an accurate one again. I guess there's always an awkward balance between appealing to nostalgia and accurately re-making figures by intentionally ignoring decades of progress in design and manufacturing. My Matt, for instance, lost h...

Re: The real Gotham by Gaslight Batman

I was quite fond of the Welles hoax, and wished it was real. This one's amusing, I guess, and somebody did a great job on that mask. But even if there was anything to it, why would a vigilante sit for a portrait in his mask? Then again, the link doesn't actually claim this is a photo of "Bill S...

Re: The real Gotham by Gaslight Batman

I'm not convinced Bob Kane read history books any more than he did art instruction books.

Photoshop is awesome, though.

Re: Spider-Man 1967 custom Mego

I agree, the heavier black along the top edge of the eyes gives him a "sleepy" look. (Or a "Groucho" vibe, I can't decide). That said, having those web lines colored in makes for a definite improvement over the original Mego Spidey. And unlike modern Mego figures, the head is act...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #187: "Superman" musical: It's not a bird, but is it camp?

I remember staying up late to watch this and record it with a cassette player (as I did Batman " and Star Trek , the latter of which actually works surprisingly well as a "radio drama"). Mostly I remember it because it took a lot of wheedling and bargaining to be allowed to stay up th...

Re: Kane Concept Bat-Man Mego figure

I hope we get a good Sprang Batman, too (obviously given my screen name) but for sure it won't be coming from Mego. Even if they got the head sculpt right, it would be 3 sizes too large for the body. Honestly, given the various attempts to realize Sprang's art in three dimensions -- from action figu...

I can't imagine signing up for HBO Max to see it, either, but someday I'll get round to it.

And yeah, all those shirts are probably unlicensed products.

This is a promotional image from Bruce Timm's upcoming "Caped Crusader" animated series.

Looking forward to the show. It's a good look.

Re: Kane Concept Bat-Man Mego figure

Just think, without the input of Bill Finger, "Bat-Man" wouldn't be any better known today than his contemporaries The Fiery Mask, The Zebra, Airmale and the Red Blazer. In spite of myself, I dig that figure on the blister card, even if "Bob Kane's Batman" is really just "Bo...

Re: Mezco 12 Pts Golden Age Batman

The only comics run I own in more versions than Amazing Spider-Man 1-38 is the Lee/Ditko run on Dr Strange . Which is doubly odd since if you asked me, I wouldn't say I was particularly a Marvel reader or a Ditko fan. But the proof is in the pudding: I guess I'm both! Bonus points for the half Peter...

Re: Mezco 12 Pts Golden Age Batman

No way I'm shelling out that kind of bread, but I took a look at the Ditko Spidey figure on the Mezco site and what fun! Not only does the figure look great, but the time and effort taken to show it off by recreating poses from classic comic covers and splash pages shows a lot of love went into this...
