Burgess Meredith as "The Penguin" on The Monkees?

For as long as I can remember, I've been puzzled by Burgess Meredith's cameo on an episode of The Monkees, in which he appears as a very Penguin-like character. I get the "one pop cultural phenomenon referencing another" angle, but considering that the two shows were on different networks ...

Re: Newmar: Joan Collins played it too straight

Agreed, and the unfortunate thing is the backstory was in the script, and was filmed: http://www.batgirlbat-trap.com/omake/btswail.html I think Siren played like a season 1 villain, especially with being obsessed about discovering Batman & Robin's identities. Thanks for posting this. I have lon...

Re: The ME-TV BATMAN Episode Discussion Thread

I'm sure that BATMAN fans in the Philadelphia area have discovered that our local Me-TV affiliate, in what seems to be an on-going campaign to undermine the network, has replaced BATMAN with two locally-produced current affairs programs. This follows on the heels of their replacing KOJAK with a loca...

Re: Spot the blooper

Me-TV is airing "The Penguin's Nest" next weekend. Pay attention to Burt Ward's hair during this episode, as his hairstyle changes from the early scenes to the later scenes. Considering that this was the first episode produced after the hiatus, I'm guessing that Burt was still sporting his...

(Pop) Cultural Reference in "Ring of Wax"?

In the episode, "Ring of Wax", during the library sequence, the librarian is shown telling a female patron not to write in the margins of the book she is borrowing. The woman is blonde and wearing a trench coat. Watching that scene, I couldn't help thinking that it was a reference to somet...

Re: Was Burt Ward considered handsome back in his heyday?

Never gave much thought to Burt Ward, in terms of attractiveness, in all the years I watched the show until this latest go-round on Me-TV. In terms of the cute vs. handsome debate, I would cast a write-in vote for "hot."

Re: Batman TV series DVD set in 2014!!

Excellent news, indeed. Let's hope that this is given the deluxe treatment, with lots of extras, and the restoration of the original broadcast versions, complete with "Batman -- IN COLOR" and "Next Week" bumpers.

Re: The ME-TV BATMAN Episode Discussion Thread

Not having seen the series in years, I assumed that the Minstrel episodes were throwaways, but having watched them again, I've changed my mind. I think these episodes are quite strong, with an interesting villain, good scripts that contain moments of suspense and humor, and vivid camera work and edi...

Re: The ME-TV BATMAN Episode Discussion Thread

<sigh> Watched "The Ogg and I/How to Hatch a Dinosaur". It's painful to see how Stanford Sherman turned Egghead from Batman's most brilliant enemy into Olga's cowardly, henpecked fiance. The character had the potential to be as important a villain as The Joker within the context of the ser...

Re: Remembering Barbara Nichols

Whenever I watch a movie and see the name Barbara Nichols in the opening credits, I smile because I know that no matter how good or bad the movie turns out to be overall, it will definitely shine during those scenes in which she appears. We lost her far too soon.

Re: The ME-TV BATMAN Episode Discussion Thread

Next week my listings have The Ogg And I/How To Hatch A Dinosaur, and the following week is The Minstrel. This is really maddening. I noticed that, too, and cannot figure out why Me-TV is doing this, as there are only 4 second season adventures left. I know that they skipped the Egghead-Olga two-pa...

Skip Ward, billed as James Ward, appeared in the Howard Hawks film, RED LINE 7000 (1965), which also featured Marianna Hill (Cleo Patrick) and Gail Hire (Miss Bacon). All three of them appear together in at least two scenes. Teri Garr also appears in the film as a singing and dancing waitress.

Re: 25th anniversary Alfred

I don't recall many people discussing this aspect of the Batman series, but what I've always liked about Alfred is that the character represents a positive portrayal of a senior citizen. Rather than going with any of the stereotypes that television shows often resort to when portraying seniors, Batm...

Re: Do Batman bloopers exist?

On the topic of bloopers, I noticed something that seems to approach a blooper in part two of the second-season Egghead episode. It's a scene with Edward Everett Horton as Chief Screaming Chicken, when Bruce arrives too late to deliver the pelts. At the end of the scene, CSC says, "That's the w...
