Re: TO THE BATPOLES #137: Yvonne Craig: We get a kick out of this memoir

so she struck up a conversation with one of Elvis' "henchmen" (did they wear black turtlenecks with the titles of Elvis songs in white lettering on their chests?) Enter "Hound Dog," "Devil In Disguise," and ... "A Big Hunk of Love"? Burning Love was the name ...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #137: Yvonne Craig: We get a kick out of this memoir

Interesting episode, guys. Some fans have complained about the nature of some of the stories in Ward's book, but Craig's book was in extended orbit of that "world" by claiming that she dated Elvis while he was married. Some might say "well, she's just telling the truth" , but th...

Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

Found the newsstand issue in a comic shop dollar bin. Direct market issue arrived today from Evilbay. https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Detective_Comics_Vol_1_554 Congrats on the pick-up, Keith. I remember buying Tec 554 off the spinner rack and being....well, less than enthused with Black Canary's new lo...

Re: RIP Denny O'Neil

I started collecting in 1976 and first discovered some of Denny's great earlier stories via Treasury Edition. DC picked some really great O'Neil stories to spotlight in those, and he quickly became one of my favorite Batman writers. I got to collect some (and would have collected all, if not for spo...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #135: Batman ’66 Comics, the Gray Ghost, and Nostalgia

Hi Guys. As always, thanks for the show. I had no idea how long traffic cones have been around, since I've only been around since 1971. According to this, cones have been around since the 1940s, and I think they've been on the highway I had to drive to get to work since then. Yes, I love working fro...

Re: One:12 Collective Superman - 1978 Edition

Thanks for sharing. I have fond memories of seeing the first two Christopher Reeve movies in the theatre.

Just because we're Batman fans doesn't mean we aren't Superman fans, too. After all, if Superman hadn't been so successful when he debuted, there probably wouldn't be a Batman.

Re: BAT 77 Podcast - Asylum of the Futurians (Batman #229)

Sorry to take so long to comment. I'm not surprised that Barr wrote a letter praising this story. Barr wrote a text piece for my favorite treasury, Batman's Strangest Cases. There he highlighted "Other Strange Cases of the Batman" and this is one of the issues he mentioned. He made the sto...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #134: What’s My Crime? Bob Dozier’s Joker Drafts

In the "Joker's Utility Belt" comic, the Joker has a conveyor belt that leads into a giant Joker face, and the Joker mouth is a furnace. His utility belt is also red in the comic, which may be where that bit came from. Joker managing to take off Batman's belt and replace it with another b...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES #134: What’s My Crime? Bob Dozier’s Joker Drafts

Thanks for the show and for posting the scripts. I always enjoying reading them and seeing what changed before filming. The Joker's Utility Belt was reprinted in Batman 176, which had a December 1965 cover date. According to comics.org, the on-sale date was October 7, 1965. Dick Sprang was the artis...

Hope this isn't against forum rules, but the cover with the masked Julie is an exclusive available at J. Scott Campbell's website. Just an FYI, before anyone pays three prices for it on eBay.

Re: BAT 77 Podcast - The House That Haunted Batman (Detective #408) w/Ken Holtzhouser

I think the jarring shift in tone was probably due to the fact that Wolfman & Wein wrote this early in their careers, when they were still learning how to write comics. Not to say the story isn't entertaining, it just isn't among either writers' best works. I wonder how they co-wrote it...If one...
