Re: The Latest Batman Item You've Acquired?

My latest Batman acquisitions were 80th anniversary Funko Pop pieces. The solo Keaton and Kilmer Batman Pop figures and a couple two-packs, the Keaton/Nicholson set and the 1964 New Look Batman and Robin set based on the Infantino/Anderson rooftop art used in marketing. Right now I'm waiting on a Ba...

Re: The forgotten 1994 Batsuit from DC's "Troika"

To be honest, the guy who drew the "Troika" Batsuit best was Graham Nolan, who was drawing Detective Comics at the time. https://media.comicbook.com/uploads1/2015/01/detective-comics-682-cover-118002-1280x0.jpg While the suit still has the same design flaws, Nolan's depiction of it comes t...

Re: Someone made a Kelley Jones Batman mask

Yeah, there's a lot of wiggle room with Batman: you can distort him pretty far towards what looks like a junkie's nightmare vision without necessarily losing the reader. But if, say, Aquaman or Superman were to show up for visit, it would all fall apart. The Flash could never run with Jones-drawn l...

Re: Someone made a Kelley Jones Batman mask

Bernie Wrightson beat him to it by more than ten years. http://www.qusoor.com/images/muck/ST0106.jpg Jones drew Bernie's Batman with a Marshall Rogers jawline and a body by Hans and Franz. The one thing (I think) he did originate was claws for fingers. That was...interesting. The clawed gloves show...

Re: Someone made a Kelley Jones Batman mask

Walking through doorways could be very interesting for anyone over 5'7' One does wonder how Batman can do so when his ears are that long. https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--lfdJ41c8DE/W9G4M-yBt0I/AAAAAAAAO4g/F8P6yurXSMAUL_Y18n4F4pg0SUocUum4ACHMYCw/s1600/RCO001.jpg But to be fair to Jones, he does often pa...

Someone made a Kelley Jones Batman mask

Since the "Troika" Batsuit thread pretty rapidly turned into a discussion of Kelley Jones' Batman work overall, it seemed appropriate to bring up something that a Jones fan made in April 2018. As everyone knows, one of the things Jones is famous for is giving Batman massively tall ears. So...

Re: The forgotten 1994 Batsuit from DC's "Troika"

Truth be told, this is the cover that made Kelley Jones a mainstay on the Batman books, even predating Red Rain : https://storage.googleapis.com/hipcomic/p/bb8d6aaecc278770583e1ebdcca40513-800.jpg Long story short, DC editorial took a liking to him based on his work for their Vertigo imprint, and th...

Re: Help needed planning a Batman art jam

I'm feeling a bit of Curt Swan in some of those poses, especially Luthor and Doomsday. Is that the redesigned Tempus at upper right, with what reminds me of my old disc-firing toy gun? I see Nuclear Man made the party, too. :-) That is indeed Tempus at upper right. His Lois & Clark counterpart ...

Re: The forgotten 1994 Batsuit from DC's "Troika"

I agree about the "leg fins" and if we're going to bring real-world practicality to it, those ridiculous ears would rule out any Batmobile but a convertible. Maybe the reason Jones' Batman always seems stoop-shouldered is because he has to get through doorways. Funny you mention that. Jon...

The forgotten 1994 Batsuit from DC's "Troika"

Not many people remember this, but immediately following "Knightfall" and "Prodigal" (where Dick Grayson had a brief spell in the Batsuit while Bruce was out of town), DC decided they wanted to give Bruce a brand-new costume -- complete with embossed covers of varying darkness --...

Re: Help needed planning a Batman art jam

Is Kurt Russell the model for Superman? Believe it or not, the resemblance to Kurt Russell was a total accident. Aldin "Buzz" Aw ( Vampirella ), who drew him for the jam, was originally trying for John Haymes Newton, the first of the two Salkind Superboys. But somehow, what came out in th...

For context on the other jam pieces, here's the He-Man jam, which was completed https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D_JMqC-XUAAGHTg?format=jpg&name=4096x4096 And here's the Superman jam, which is still in the raw pencil stage https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EJINpmlWwAAPzIy?format=jpg&name=4096x4096 The ...

Help needed planning a Batman art jam

The last couple years have seen me getting into the habit of commissioning art jams -- that is, art pieces where each artist draws a different character in a group shot -- at conventions. In 2018, I had several artists at the local comic cons partner up to do a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe...

Re: Batman TV series DVD set in 2014!!

There will come a time where physical media is phased out. Right now, with copyright law being insanely lopsided in favor of moneyed interests, digital downloads and streaming still aren't viable enough to take over. But at some point you will see the end of physical media. Just not in the near-futu...

Re: Batman TV series DVD set in 2014!!

But is this what the director and producer intended ? The pilot is not supposed to be super dark and saturated, especially when Batman enters the night club. Yes, it's essentially what was originally intended. You may like the faded, washed-out syndication prints better, but they do not have greate...
