Re: The Great Divide

One important element to the '66 Batcraze: merchandising.

You could not go anywhere without seeing some kind of toy, game, etc. The entire country was in the grips of Batmania!

Any 35mm print will have that information. I no longer have the full feature but have an odd reel around here somewhere...

Re: BAT FRAME conspiracy

Hey Scott, I think you're right. I remember screening the feature in 35mm without an aperture plate in the projector head so we could see the full height of the printed image. You could see the end of the cyclorama during the submarine fight, the top of the process screen during the shark scene, spo...

Re: BAT FRAME conspiracy

The common practice for feature films since 1953 in cinematography is to compose for widescreen theatrical but to protect for the standard Academy ratio. Meaning, there is extra height to the image on the negative but it is not anything that is meant to be seen. I used to have a 35mm print of the fe...

Re: TO THE BATPOLES podcast #88: Holy hyperbole! It's Burt Ward's book!

Also interesting about season two which may be another signal of people losing interest in the series is aside from the Catwoman arc in week two, we don't get an episode from one of the four major villains again until week nine's Hizzonner the Penguin. I think that had more to do with the movie sti...

Re: Did the '66 movie need an A-list star?

The TV shows were composed for 1.37:1 so the feature was indeed photographed for normal theatrical exhibition of 1.85:1 non-anamorphic widescreen. It was originally planned for 2.35:1 CinemaScope but that was dropped in favor of 1.85:1 widescreen composition. Dozier wanted to use the stock shots (Ba...

I always cringed to see this book (and inappropriate cover) on the table at conventions when Burt is meeting his young fans!

Re: Did the '66 movie need an A-list star?

Eastwood was quite busy when the feature was in production: from Variety, May 19 1966.

Re: Check Out DC’s Strange Announcement of the BATMAN TV Series

The first mention of the show in Variety was August 25, 1965 and Adam is listed for the show on September 22, 1965.

Funny, there's no mention whatsoever of doing a feature first as a way to launch the series.

Another Bat-myth busted?

Re: Fourth Season Myth

Wham-O (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wham-O) produced the show in an effort to promote toys.

Screen Gems picked up BATFINK on March 8, 1967:
