The old folks on the board are wondering ...

Post by westbatman »

I just noticed that since we moved to this new format my join date is now listed as 2012  I've been a member of this board (the original board) since before A Gore invented the internet. It would have been cool that our original join dates could have migrated over ... I understand that it probably couldn't but I look like a newbie now and I am a classic!

Just whining.

Not speaking for the mods here, but I seem to recall Scott saying something about this subject before the switch over that you may have missed. It was along the lines of status and people making silly posts like a smiley or one word just to boost there quote, "importance" on the board. Scott's reply (and I'm totally paraphrasing here) was along the lines of: No one is more imporatnt than any other person here and so on.

Hope that helps. I for one don't care. People that know me, know I've been here since David Sutton created the board and I've had several ID names over the years that reflect my changing moods etc.

I think the issue is that when the switch over came to the new bard. Everybody had to re-register so the dates started fresh.

Yeah, it was a migration thing. Since everybody had to re-register into all new software, nothing carried over. Likewise, the value cannot be changed even manually by me in the database.

As far as John's paraphrasing, I think that had more to do with not keeping track of Post Counts and Rankings. But he got the most basic gist of it right.
Some posts sort of relevant from the old board:
http://www.66batman.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Y ... 6158/0/#13
http://www.66batman.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Y ... 869513/4#4

I guess some folks have also considered their time with the board as another form of hierarchy or pecking order. Of course, I'm not saying Andy is suggesting such because I've known him long enough to get what he was basically saying.

Thanks for the info, I was just wondering. Scott has me pegged correctly ... I don't care how many posts I have as I only reply to things I really know about, not just "that looks great" or "cool" just to get my post counts up.

I just didn't want people to think I was a newbie, it's not a big deal.
