Batmobile might have been a......Corvette?

Interesting but thankful that fate had other plans. The Futura helped maintain the tradition of the Batmobile's continued uniqueness in appearance in print and on screen. That Corvette looks like... a really bad Corvette. But who knows, it might have become iconic in its own right.

Interesting that he got the Bat-logo on the spinners right, albeit that is the door logo on the Futura - I wonder if they were provided with logo templates by DC/Dozier?

Luckily we had the Futura. The Corvette doesn´t fit and looks... Weird.

Very interesting! I have to think (or hope) that was an early attempt at creating a Batmobile, and if given the green light, Jordan would have come up with something better.
Thanks for the post.

Interesting to see. This is the first I'm hearing that someone other than Barris was approached.

Dean Jeffries is said to have been approached, as well...
...and was supposedly going to use a cadillac for the base!

I'm not sure that he information in this article is correct. Many years ago, I saw another photo of this car taken back in '66. It was taken indoors somewhere with either Adam, Dozier or Barris, or a combination of them, as they were visiting the factory AFTER the show was already on the air. The caption stated that this car was not created for the show but merely as a tribute for the visit to the factory. It was never a contender for the show if memory serves.

Interesting adaptation - at least you could ride around in it on a rainy day!Mauled Vader wrote:Dean Jeffries is said to have been approached, as well...

MV is right. Dean Jeffries was originally contracted to build the Batmobile from a 1959 Cadillac, but when ABC pushed the show half a year ahead of schedule, Jeffries had to bow out. Dozier called upon George Barris, who happened to have the Futura--and the most famous car in the world was born.
