Which cities were used for the exterior scenes?

Post by BatGirl »

Hi :)

First post here, I was curious which cities were used for the exterior skyscraper and large city scenes that were often shown throughout the series?

Welcome to the board!

The building you see outside Cmsr. Gordon's office window is the Old John Hancock Tower in Boston.

thanks for the welcome!

:)

I've been a big fan of Batman since I was a child, I just love the crazy, zany out there comedy and the can do anything stories. It is great to find a site like this where other people love the show as much as I do.

Thank you Bat66

I have wondered if the scenes were from New York or Washington or even maybe San Francisco, as some of the bridges seen in the show have similar styles to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Do you think Gotham City would be a part of New York state? Or would Gotham be a state and Gotham City be the capital of that state?

And is Wayne Manor located in GC and if not, did they ever say where it is?

I've always thought the 66 version of Gotham City was New York city. Look at the parallels. Mayor Linseed Mayor Lindsey. Governor Stonefeller overnor Rockefeller. Short Island Sound Long Island Sound. I think they mention Gotham Square Garde, The bordering state is New Guernsey New York borders New Jersey.

The state must be Gotam State. They mention Gotham State penitentiary which would be conected to the state not the city. I don't think GC is the state capitol thouh.

There is also a United World (United Nations) building mentioned in the '66 Batman movie.

The official 'Atlas of The DC Universe' places Gotham City on the southern shore of New Jersey.

But of course, New York City has been nicknamed Gotham for many years.

The real answer to what state Gotham is in...the state of mind of the viewer/reader! It's timeless and could be just about anywhere in the NE United States.

In the comics, it's outside the city limits (Gotham is on an island like Manhattan, and Wayne Manor is on the mainland). And on the TV show isn't it '14 miles to Gotham City' from Wayne Manor? Assuming the tunnel from the main Batcave to the exit is as short as it looks on TV. In 'real life' Wayne Manor was 380 South San Rafael Avenue in Pasadena CA.

I seem to recall reading that one of the episodes contradicts this somehow and places Wayne Manor inside Gotham City limits, but I don't remember the particulars. That will happen with many writers and no real 'bible'.

Wayne Manor not being in the GC city limits was helpful when Egghead kicked them out during his appearance in S2.
