Re: Say Goodbye to Your Bootlegs!
I transferred mine to video a few months back. I will wait to see the quality of the official released versions are until I decide to delete what I have. Not that the quality of my collection is anything to brag about. The colors are faded, the episodes are either edited or time compressed and of course they have the commercials.
Re: Say Goodbye to Your Bootlegs!
Lee I think we might have the same set.
A lot of the extras from one of mine are also on the Batmania DVDs, while I have a sentimentality attached to them, I'm happy to take a pic of them and then clear out the shelf space. Keeping the thread alive, what other era shows are in your permanent collection?
For me; GET SMART, GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, WILD WILD WEST, HOGANS HEROES, TARZAN (Ron Ely), OUTER LIMITS, TWILIGHT ZONE, THRILLER, INVADERS, TIME TUNNEL, ANDY GRIFFITH, ULTRA MAN, SPECTRE MAN, DICK VAN DYKE, GREEN ACRES, BEVERLY HILLBILLIES and I think I might have a disc or two of F TROOP.
Genre shows, BATMAN will be on a shelf with WONDER WOMAN, GREEN HORNET (Japanese release), THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN, BUCK ROGERS, SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN, SPIDER-MAN (American and Japanese versions) THE HULK and I'm sure a few others I'm not remembering.
But BATMAN will get the spotlight position.

Re: Say Goodbye to Your Bootlegs!
I have a "masters" set I picked up at a Fangoria convention a few years ago, and I'll hang onto those as this has been the best the series has looked and sounded. I'd bought some other sets that were fairly disappointing and I just gave those away. One thing I'm strongly hoping for is an episode menu - with the set I have now, I'd have to put it on the player and squint to see a still from the episode I'd like to watch and click on it. It's a little maddening, but you gotta work with what you have. I was skeptical about it being a "masters" set, no matter what the quality, and this was confirmed by the opening of "The Cat and the Fiddle". There was the bumper reminding us all "This is ABC", then the episode began with the TV Land logo in the lower right hand corner. Now, why there would be a bumper for one network with a logo of another network onscreen for the duration of the episode if this was indeed a "true master"?
Anyhow, I've enjoyed reading all the enthusiastically elated and ecstatic posts about the upcoming release, and since I've signed up for the Amazon alert, I need not hunt down any more sites for any more news, but the posts have been just great.

If anyone is throwing away a "masters" set, I'd like to see the little tidbits that some said would likely not make it to the official DVDs.htbomb wrote:Please toss one of those bootleg sets my way.
Thanks.

Yes, I do wonder as well what these tidbits and extras on these bootlegs are that some have mentioned?

I have never owned any 60s Batman bootlegs. The DVDs will be the first time I've had the show in my collection. So excited.

Re: Say Goodbye to Your Bootlegs!
I plan on going for the blu-ray which means that my bootlegs will be sent to the storage bins. That is where they have been for years anyway as I painstakingly converted them all to mp4 files, so that I have them all on my iPad and Apple TV anytime I want them. Even though I also have the "masters" set everyone else talks about, the quality is just not there and I am SOOO looking forward to seeing this in HD. I do hope they do a digital release as well (my guess is UltraViolet may be included with the set purchase like WB does with TBBT), but they may force me to go the expense and double dip if it is released on iTunes as well.
Re: Say Goodbye to Your Bootlegs!
Well I do own a copy of the "studio masters" set. What they have on each episode which does not appear on TV broadcasts/re-runs are "next villain" bumpers at the end of the second part episode. Also Batman "in color" idents at the start of each episode and every know and then "place commercial here" appears (that is annoying, not really a perk!).Yellow Oval wrote:Yes, I do wonder as well what these tidbits and extras on these bootlegs are that some have mentioned?
So it's not anything major. Well apart from the bumpers at the end. At the bottom of my webpage you can watch some of the bumpers compiled together from YouTube - http://www.bat-mania.co.uk/main/villains/index.php
As for throwing my copies out, I will keep them for nostalgia like someone else has mentioned. I have three sets. One of which is the "studio masters" set i've just spoken about. The other two are what i've recorded off TV, and pausing out the adverts - took me a lot of time!
I'm sure bootleggers will be disappointed with this news. I have seen some websites charging ridiculous amounts for copies recorded off of TVLand! So I am happy people can pay the money to the true holders of the TV series to show the popularity of our favourite show!
Re: Say Goodbye to Your Bootlegs!
The next week promos and the Batman in color leads were included in SciFi's run back when they aired them.

I'll be keeping my old VHS copies from my childhood as well as my DVDs from other years as both have served me well over the years. Both those and the new DVDs have a place in my bat collection
Re: Say Goodbye to Your Bootlegs!
My point-of-view is that it's up to Warner Bros. whether or not I purchase their product. What will the final package be like - what will be the contents? How will it be priced? The bootleg I bought is pretty darn nifty. I won't buy the official released DVDs if the box set takes up too much room, if it costs too much, and it's just the episodes. As you may guess I have no problem whatsoever with owning a black market copy of something that was not made available. So, as far as I'm concerned, WB is just "too late to the game" unless they can seriously out-do what I've already got. That means some good extras: commentaries and documentary features. Assuming they provide those things at a reasonable price - I'm thinking no more than $75 - then I will likely purchase the set. As for discarding the bootleg, I'll probably find a "needy" person to give it to.

Batman '66 will also be the cream of the crop in my collection, but for the record, I have Lost in Space, Star Trek (T.O.S.), Time Tunnel, Outer Limits, Six Million Dollar Man, Hogan's Heroes, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Battlestar Galactica (Orig. Series), The Avengers: Emma Peel Collection, The Munsters, The Invaders, UFO, In Search Of.., and, in honor of early 70s Saturday mornings - The Groovy Ghoulies! Also, not a TV show, but honorable mention goes to my Blu-Ray Planet of the Apes movie series. "Awooga! Awooga! Awooga!" (Apes' hunting horn for those who didn't catch it)
I'm hoping to one day get the original Twilight Zone series as well as Night Gallery and the Man from U.N.C.L.E. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea is another on the list. Probably even will pick up the '77 ABC Hardy Boys series. That first episode with the haunted house restaurant really hooked me that night. The Transylvanian Castle episode with Paul Williams and Lorne Green as Dracula was really cool also as well as Casey Kasem's fun portrayal as the Phantom of Universal Studios. Pure '70s schlock and fun.
The spirits of mystery, adventure, and innovation are really lacking in today's TV. Glad DVDs are there for us and finally the ultimate adventure - Batman - will soon be available to us all.

I will keep the older set as a barometer of just how long we had to wait and the bad quality we had to endure. It will keep me appreciating the new set all the more.

Re: Say Goodbye to Your Bootlegs!
Was the "in color" on many of the episodes? I think I saw it on a few of them on ME-TV when I watched the first season run-through early last year, and I remember there being at least a couple of "next week" promos. I specifically remember one for Clock King. Were there a lot of "next week" promos that ME-TV didn't air?
