The Puzzler
I know he was a blatant Riddler rip-off and they created him just because Gorshin was unavailable but... well, my God, what was his "costume" supposed to represent/inspire? He was an overall interesting character, but... what the hell with the costume?

Probably a frustrated Shakespearean actor, since he often quoted the Bard in those episodes.

Re: The Puzzler
One can tell that these episodes were quickly thrown together and little thought was given to the costumes. I consider Puzzler to be the second worst (first place goes to Minerva) "villain" to appear on the show. But I am glad they didn't try to put Maurice Evans in Gorshin's green tights and have him be yet another Riddler. Even though I liked John Astin's Riddler, no one did it better than Gorshin.
Re: The Puzzler
It's a shame Frank Gorshin was being "difficult" reprising his role as Riddler in the second season. However I did enjoy John Astin's portrayal and would have preferred seeing him in a second storyline as the Riddler instead of Puzzler. Then again, it's all speculation.
Re: The Puzzler
Since I never like the Penguin character that much, I would have liked having more Riddler in the series, and Gorshin playing the character all the time. Too bad he demanded more money and it didn't work!BatfanRicky wrote:It's a shame Frank Gorshin was being "difficult" reprising his role as Riddler in the second season. The only thing I found interesting about "THE PUZZLER" episodes was Barbara Stuart's proto-"LAND of the GIANTS" outfit.

Batbomba,
Is that a Frank Morgan "Wizard of Oz" dressed as The Puzzler?

LOL, I really don't know, I just found that on the net.Steve Rosinski wrote:Batbomba,

Anyway, I like the fact the Puzzler is not monothematic:
1- He love riddles and puzzles, hence his persona.
2- He loves Shakespeare.
3- He loves airplanes.
Am I right?

True. I think the Shakespeare part was written in just for Maurice Evans, as his character on "Bewitched" often quoted Shakespeare as well.

Man, all they had to do was an episode with the Puzzler and Bookworm and find a role for Kim Hunter and then...
Puzzler: "Bookworm, take the book from my breast pocket."
Bookworm: (reads aloud) "Beware the Batman for he is Gotham's brawn..."
Ahh, it's been done already - sort of! Never mind!

Re: The Puzzler
I'm thinking for the sequel - Beneath the Planet of the Bats.
The Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, and King Tut are standing around the decrepit train station stairway staring down at Alfred and Aunt Harriet. The Penguin presiding.
Catwoman: "Are we to understand that you've been in the Batcave?"
Penguin: (removing cigarette stem): Mr. Alfred, we need to know, do the Bats want war or peace?
Alfred: "Begging your pardon, Mr. Penguin, but Batman, Robin, and Batgirl are racing on your hideout!
(Cut to Batmobile and Batgirl's cycle racing together over a desert highway with theme music)
Dah-Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah...Dah-Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah
