1973 Batgirl PSA original film elements on YouTube!!
Wow! It looks like the original film elements DO exist for this commercial.
This would look great as an extra for the upcoming DVD set for the show! The image is pin sharp and color nice and bold compared to all other versions I've seen online.
This is the 30 second version and I'll bet the National Archives has the 60 second version also.
Great stuff!!!!

Comparing it to the 60 second version shows some more differences.

The new National Archives 30 second version has a different Dosier voice over and Yvonne does the voice over at the end. No Batmusic.

I just watched both at the same time. Impossible to synch because the majority are different takes and spoken lines. Never noticed this before. Cool! I hope both can be included in the upcoming home videos.

Great quality - yep, put it on the Extras Menu for the DVD release!
I'm still fascinated about where the cowl came from that Dick wore.... it doesn't show any signs of purple deterioration, Although with the crisper quality on the You Tube clip, it indeed looks a little 'odd' regards the nose and eyebrow painting.
Different from an Adam version from the show...
Does anyone know the story of where/who it came from??

Downloaded it so at the very least, it's possible to make one's own DVD copy of it! The good quality of the film elements is a testament to the care the archivists are showing at the National Archives with their material.

I wrote the national labor board in 1973 about this and asked if I could have a copy of the film and they sent me a 35MM copy of the commercial free of charge. I can remember watching "As the world turns" just to see the commercial. BTW, who is the actor playing Batman and where is Adam West?

I'm unclear. Is that not Adam, Burt and Yvonne in this commercial? I recognize Howie Horwitz's voice as the narrator.

No, it's Dick Gautier as Batman. During this time Adam West was trying to fight typecasting and did not want to reprise his role as Batman.
The narrator if I am not mistaken is William Dozier, the same as on the series.
He flies and fights-BATMAN!
Purity and virtue-BATMAN!
Cowards run away!
Batman saves the day!
Also, Boy Wonder Robin.
Batman and Robin-caped crusaders at night!

This is truly a wonderful find - the quality is breathtaking. I don't believe I have seen the 30 second version before. Also, am I the only one who never saw the Adam West Savings Bond promo that is featured in the National Archives blog post? That video is terrific too!
Thank you for sharing.

Re: 1973 Batgirl PSA original film elements on YouTube!!
As far as I know, it's NOT the gila cowl on Gautier. My understanding is that Adam himself had the gila cowl ( as tragic as it turned out) made from one of his own show cowls when it started to deteriorate a few years later... he gave it to a costume maker who unfortunately got the re-covering job 'wrong' to say the least (Chuck - where were you back then??)
So I am still fascinated to know if anyone can shed any light on the PSA cowl that Gautier wore???
