Might as well toss in these shots of the last moments of this cowl (and costume) used in "The Thirteenth Hat/Batman Stands Pat", if you want to try to ID it - they're from the recap in the second episode, because the first used a wide shot:

I re-watched this episode less than a week ago, it appears to be the "Pilot" cowl that they drenched in faux-plaster here, which totally makes sense given that even by episode #13 the style has already evolved a long way from that initial design.chrisbcritter wrote:Might as well toss in these shots of the last moments of this cowl (and costume) used in "The Thirteenth Hat/Batman Stands Pat", if you want to try to ID it - they're from the recap in the second episode, because the first used a wide shot:

Yup I agree here. This appears to be the death of the pilot cowl-- which is a shame really.

Yep, that looks like a pilot cowl alright.
So, if there is no objection, I think the cowl design peaked with these three from the first season. From here on out the paint changed on each one and even when they got close to this paint scheme, there was usually another issue with fit or finish that made them less polished.
They did a nice job of continuity in the paint and fit on these three. These are the vibe I go for when I make a cowl...

I watched this episode last night.... I'm still transfixed by the Batman dummy, so every time I see it I'm transported back to watch this show on my grandma TV cart, I always wanted that dummy

It may have been Hubies pilot cowl that got dumped on or the one worn by the Riddlers henchman in the earlier episode which looked like it was in bad shape no matter who's it was.
Yep, I'd love to know what happened to that Batman sculpture!!

Whilst I was flicking through some screen caps yesterday to clarify my thought's for another thread, there was a spate of particularly heinous paint jobs in that are particularly noticeable in the first quarter of Season Two. Although the cowls often change scene to scene, it seems like the handful that were being swapped between at point in the summer of 66 were all a little dire in their own right.
Having said all that, i'd still take an S2 cowl over the "sunken" eye effect/poor fit of the S3 "hard-hat" structured cowls.

It's amazing how much that rotation forward on the cowl changes the look.
