"The Beat of the Bat" - 1966 Bat-Music Documentary

Post by Pat The Batman Fan »

Well, this has been long time coming, but it’s time to officially start a thread for my documentary “The Beat of the Bat” which is all about Neal Hefti, Nelson Riddle, Billy May and the music of ’66 Batman!

Some of you folks have been following along in the “Official Bat-Music Thread” for awhile, but now it’s time to share the news with the whole gang!

I’ve been filming this for the last couple years on my own and have gotten a bunch of great interviews including our own beloved Wally Wingert, Chad & Jeremy, Michael Z. Gordon of the Marketts and Johnny Green- the leader of Joker’s band from “Surf’s Up, Joker’s Under”. We actually went back to where they filmed it at Torrance Beach 50 years ago. Pretty cool! Neal’s son Paul Hefti is an Executive Producer on the project and has been a tremendous supporter since day one. Lots of good stuff happening.

AND NOW, A DISCLAIMER!

I’m putting the link for the project, which is a Kickstarter project page.

Please understand, I’m not asking you for anything (other than your time) by giving you this link. This is just where all the information for the film lives for now. ALSO, the board is not affiliated or responsible for any outcome of my campaign. It’s all me.

That said, have a look at the trailer/pitch video here:

www.beatofthebat.com

Had a lot of fun filming it and constructing the various Bat-props for it. Special thanks to our Bat-Guitarist Scott Sebring for donning the cape and cowl for the trailer. You sir, are the best.

There’s also lots more info on the film there as well, and if you want to get direct updates, you can follow the progress on Facebook and/or Twitter @thebeatofthebat. We’ll be sharing lots of fun/cool/wacky stuff. I’ll do my best to post major updates here as well. I’ve got some exciting things in the mix so stay tuned!

And of course, If you have any questions/comments about the film itself, I welcome them here (questions about the campaign please ask through the link on the campaign page only, not here, thanks!)

Special thanks to all the fine folks on the Bat-Music thread for your encouragement and input!

You'll need to check the URL link. It didn't work for me. I found your kickstarted page eventually by manually entering the address. Good luck with your efforts by the way.

Best of luck with the project. Here's hoping someone commandeers an abandoned guitar-pick factory and goes into business making Bat Picks!

Pat! You did it! It's been a long journey, but good to see things are moving forward. If I had it, you know you'd be MORE than funded right now!
Great idea Jim. That would be a great promo item!

Good luck Pat. That video clip of Wally reading the story of the Batman theme was fantastic
