Bottom of the Batpoles

Post by BatmanFan102 »

All,

During some episodes, the bottoms of the Batpoles appear to have a spongy like rounded pillow to absorb the shock from landing at the bottom, but during other episodes, they are not there, and it just appears to be a rather hardened smaller circle.

The non-pillow bottoms looked as if they would be rather painful to land on. Can anybody offer insight into this and why the bottoms of the Batpoles were changed?

Sometimes they had small pads for the compressed steam batpole lift.

I would guess they were sliding from just above the Batcave ceiling, so landing on a smaller pad wouldn't make that much difference.

The scene of them landing on the softer yellow pads were from the pilot. As a cost cutting measure this scene was reused over and over throughout the first season (and beyond). Likewise all episode of the first season showcase the softer landing pads.

Following the filming of the first season the compressed steam batlifts were created for Batman: The Movie thereby necessitating the creation of new sturdier landing pads that could conceivably lift the Caped Crusaders up the batpoles. While the first season scenes were still reused from time to time, for the most part new scenes featured the new landing pad.
