Questions for Donna Loren?

Post by bat-rss »

Hey everybody! First of all, TO THE BATPOLES podcast is about to be back in action! More details on that to come shortly. As promised, our next episode is about the 1966 Batman newspaper strip.

Secondly, as the episode to follow that will be a discussion of the draft script of THE JOKER GOES TO SCHOOL/HE MEETS HIS MATCH, THE GRISLY GHOUL, to add to that same episode, I've arranged to talk a few minutes with none other than Donna Loren (Susie)! I'm putting together my questions now, to talk with her THIS COMING MONDAY EVENING U.S. time, so please post your suggestions for questions here!

Great news! Happy you guys are coming back.

Questions:

Before landing the role of Susie, was she aware of Batman & Robin as comic book characters to any degree (even if she did not read comics) and/or TV series?

Was it exciting to be on this then-new series?

How was it to work alongside West, Ward and Romero?

Did the producers ever consider bringing Susie back to show?

What did she think of the overall quality of the aired episode?

Thanks in advance, guys!

That's great to hear, Tim!

Donna said she had to read for the part. I'm wondering what was that experience like?

Congrats on landing the interview.

How many days of shooting?

What was working with Cesar like?

Thanks!

Great to hear the podcast is coming back!

Batmania was going strong when she appeared on the show, and I wonder how much Donna felt a part of it. Was she a Batman fan before she auditioned for the role of Susie? Was it a bigger deal for her to land a Batman guest shot than it would have been to snag other roles (either because she was excited about it, or because of the show's cachet)? Did she get new fans who recognized her as Susie?

High C pointed me to another interview where Donna said that, when she arrived at Desilu to shoot, people were climbing the fence to get a look at a Batman shoot.

I don't recall how many weeks of shows they were able to shoot before "Hi Diddle Riddle" was broadcast (or even where I could get that information), but apparently yes, Batmania had begun by the time JOKER GOES TO SCHOOL was shot.

Since any blooper reels are apparently lost, please ask her if there were any memorable goofs during the shooting - did she or Cesar ever bust out laughing during a take?

Looking at the production numbers in the Bat-Book, False Face is 8713, Joker/School is 8715. So that would fit with the show being in maybe its 2nd or 3rd week of broadcast when this was filmed.
