Batmobile & Black Beauty display ad - 1976

Post by chrisbcritter »

This was in the Northbrook, IL News-Advertiser of August 6, 1976:

I went there once; wish I'd brought a camera. The Batmobile they had was one with the fuzz all over it.

I also grew up going there...The gift shop had TONS of Corgi Batmobiles and other Batman items in it! I remember the Corgis went for $2.99 each!!

That's a great find Karl. Thanks for posting it. It's a shame that they couldn't get the Black Beauty's name right.

Thank you for the ad!! Those were the days when custom TV cars were insanely popular, and so much fun to see at shows!

Interesting how the Black Beauty--a decade after the GH series' debut--was reduced to being identified as "Green Hornet/Bruce Lee car," instead of the proper title. I know the mid 70s date meant they would try to milk the Bruce Lee popularity as long as possible (three years after his passing), but it also illustrates how the lack of GH in general syndication meant promoters had to use whatever they could to draw attention to the car.

Batman was a huge syndicated hit at the time, so if I had to promote this, I would have tied BB to the Batmoble by using the line, "As seen on the Batman TV series," since BB did make an appearance on the famous crossover.

You are not kidding!! Being a Bat-fan and car shows were just too much back in the 70s! Thank you for sharing the photos!
