The Unanswered Riddler's Riddle

Post by Barry »

In "A Riddle a Day Keeps the Riddler Away/When the Rats Away The Mice Will Play" the Riddler asks "What is the beginning of eternity, the end of time and space, the beginning of every end and the end of every race?" The question is never answered in the programme, presumably due to script edits. I know the answer is the letter E, but has anyone here managed to work out how that serves as a clue for Batman?

My guess is the "E" stands for "E. Nigma"---Edward Nigma, the Riddler as if to tell Batman that it was indeed HIM. The RIddler has no fun in his riddles unless he makes sure HE has credit for them.

Isn't it: "A sparrow with a machine gun"? Atleast that's what I thought was in the movie.

Very good answers guys, although the TV series rarely applied the comic book real names of the Batvillains (with Mr.Freeze they even changed it to Dr Schivel).

I feel like Chief O'Hara, confused and confounded by that infernal prince of puzzlers!

My impression was that the riddle meant nothing it was just to confuse. Keep in mind they

answered the mushroom riddle. Then Riddler tossed the tiara and said "Look for another royal riddle in this crown!" Batman realized the real clue was royal which led them to the Royal Mushroom club. The other riddle was a red herring.

According to Irish Miss in an earlier thread there's a scene in the original script in which 'When Robin looked up the address in the phone book of The Royal Mushroom Club - it's address was 76 Avenue " E " '
