Joe Giella, Batman Comic Inker RIP

Post by rsaffle »

In case you’ve not heard the news, Joe Giella died March 21, his family announced Wednesday.

Giella was a Silver Age inker, particularly on Batman and Detective Comics. But he’s also well known for his runs on The Flash and Green Lantern.
Pencils are by Carmine Infantino.

On to a happier place, Mr. Giella. He's one of those talents who walked the border between known and unknown; he left an unforgettable mark on many a 60s DC comic (with notable inking duties for Infantino and Kane), and was credited, yet he was never held up as one of the "star" inkers in the way of Shores, Palmer or Anderson. That said, his work will always be attached to great comics--especially 1960s titles, so he make his mark.
