Batman '66 Cosplay in City Park

Post by BAT 77 »

With special thanks to my partner, Darlene, who took the photos, some pics from this morning's photo-shoot at New Orleans City Park.

I cosplayed down at the French Quarter for the last two Saturdays and have gotten lots of positive feedback. Early on as we were walking to the Krewe of Boo parade, two small kids ran up to me and gave me a hug. Most of the positive feedback was from men my age or older who remember the series fondly. Unfortunately I did get about 5 comments about my weight, which I just shrugged off, but seriously?!

Wearing this tomorrow night for the Trick-or-Treaters, and then it's back in the closet for a few months until Carnival Season (or FanExpo if they ever announce any decent guests).

Ezcosplay.com, and they're already starting to wear and tear, but what can you expect for $60?

The pictures look great! I think wearing a costume in public when you're not at a convention or a special event with like-minded people comes with a certain amount of risk. You're just out there doing your thing, but someone will inevitably make snide comments. Of course, if you rolled up in a $250,000 Batmobile they wouldn't be so quick to criticize, but alas we aren't all billionaires like Mr. Wayne.

On the positive side, you are pretty tall, so the overall fit of the cowl, belt, boots, and other items fits you well. My head rattles around in my cowl, even with padding it looks slightly ridiculous. If Chuck offered cowls scaled to fit smaller heads and shorter bodies I would be more likely to suit up again, but I'd have to work out for a few months before I'd walk around in tights again.

Anyway, Happy Bat-Halloween!

Congrats on your first official outing! Sticks and stones and all that...

Honestly, having worn cheaper boots that I modded in color and height for my very first convention appearance in costume versus the hand-made leather Durans boots… day and night difference in both look and comfort whilst wearing. Life is too short for uncomfortable shoes/boots both in and out of costume.

Bat 77, this is freaking great! Your costume is wonderful and I really applaud your choice of backgrounds in the various photos. They look like they could have been taken in Beverly Hills and other L.A. environs which more or less were Gotham City in a number of episodes. That first one has a 'Gates of Arkham Asylum' vibe - albeit even if Arkham was never in the show. I especially love the black and white photos as they evoke the spirit of some of Adam's old '60s P.R. pics for/from the series. This was an ingenious photo session. Here's hoping you do some more and if you do, I, for one will look forward to it. :)

Here's a pic from last night (Halloween). Someone abandoned a motorcycle in front of our house several months ago. I reported it to the city, but as things are here in NOLA, they've been slow to act on it. So I decided it needed to be a prop for a photo. If it's still here by Carnival season, we're going to cover it with beads.

So then it'll be the Beadcycle?

Bat 77. What's the word on the Motorcycle in front of Your house, please? I ask, because if it is unclaimed by Carnival, I recommend that You build up a temporary cowling to make it a Batcycle.

Cheers!!!!!!!

It was picked up about a week ago. Whether it was by the city, the actual owner, or someone actually stealing it, I couldn't say.
