Tonner Yvonne Craig Batgirl Doll

Post by Hedji »

Haven't bought in on any of the Tonner dolls yet, but this one may sway me.

Beautiful doll, but doesn't look anything like Yvonne Craig to me.

Very nice. If only it wasn't so expensive. The rest of the range is really nice too.

$189 for that?? I'll pass. The ICT Batgirl is a much better likeness and cheaper.

I can't say i've ever really been a fan of the Tonner doll interpretations of characters and this one is certainly not changing my feelings on the topic.

Not that I'm interested in this one but I just wanted to note that Tonner dolls are never about likeness. They are a very limited edition high end crafted dolls based more on the china/porcelain doll aesthetic known more their collector base which is not so much in the superhero TV genre.

That being said. Comparing them to anything else is apples and oranges.

I like that this is the first product to feature Yvonne's face unmasked with her signature hair style. That in itself makes it pretty unique.

There's a charm to the Tonner line and they look nicer in person.
And what Scott said +1

Inner Circle Toys have been making 12" 1966 Batman figures for years and are pretty good for the price point. They have unmasked Yvonne and just about every character. Google them and you should be able to find their website.

I get that Tonner isn't all that concerned with likenesses as a general rule, but if you check their website, you can see they definitely made an effort to make their Batman and Catwoman dolls resemble Adam and Julie (with mixed results) so I think it's fair to ask why this one makes no attempt to resemble Yvonne. Possibly it's more a contractual issue than any artistic failing?

Basically the appeal of this one will come down to whether you think the work on the costume is worth the price of the doll. Because to my eye, it's pretty much just "Standard Tonner Doll With Red Hair."

BTW, I checked out the Inner Circle website and could only find the masked Batgirl sculpt, which is indeed a great likeness. Of Diana Rigg. I also found a sculpt of a woman with her hair up in a bun, but it looks more like Sarah Palin.

I think this post sounds a lot snarkier than I'm meaning it to be. Maybe Yvonne's just one of those people who's just really hard to sculpt.
"You were right again, Batman. We might have been killed."
"Or worse. Let's go..."

Did she already sell out? The add to bag button is gone.
