Fat Head Cowl

Post by Clavier Ankh » Tue Nov 10, 2015 5:23 am

I've been searching the forum for info on cowls for larger skull people like myself. Just wondering as a fat head guy, (24.5 inches) are my only options for a nice fitting cowl the MattyCollector version, or one from the now M.I.A. Will Reeb?

Sadly, I'm aware I will never be able to don a fantastic eye popping right out of the TV screen Chuck cowl.

Thanks!

I have to imagine the Mattel Cowl would fit-- it's pretty big.

Yep, go with a Will V1 cowl for a larger head.

Thanks guys for pointing me in the ebay direction. I looked a few days ago. but turned up nothing 66 related.

Measurement should be taken around the head just above the eyebrows, correct?

Chuck, can you tell if this is one made from your patterns?
Also, what do you mean by a "Will V1", the version he made BEFORE using your pattern?

Why? Is the V2 smaller?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks!

Wills version 1 is larger and made before he started using our pattern.

Yes , version 2 is smaller but still just a hair bigger than ours and I believe he made it before using our pattern as well but used this shell with our pattern eventually.

The Ebay sale looks like V#1 to me. Judge the different sizes by the head it's on since it's on my Adam West bust. It's the same as the one in my avatar so you can see the cowl is much bigger.

That's a fair Buy It Now price IMO, they used to sell for $350 back in the day.

As Chuck said, the cowl being auctioned is indeed a V1 Will Cowl.

It appears the seller is our very own Mike Mullitsch if i'm not mistaken? The seller name is the same as the original username Mike had on the old board "Weezeemule".

Thanks for all the info guys!

I went back to measure my head more carefully, because last time I measured it I was sporting a mound of curly hair. Now with it shorter and not as bushy I come in at 24 inches. Still too big for a Chuck, but for sure a Will work work.

I was looking over the photo's again on ebay, and I noticed in the 2nd photo (the profile shot) down at the point of the painted black joining the blue material it looks like a dent. Or a small area that was pushed in on the shell? Looks kinda weird, and none of the other Will cowls I can find examples of have it. I want this one, it's a great price, but all of us want to look our best when costuming, and the cowl as the crown jewel. I hate to spend money on one with imperfections.

I advise you contact the seller and ask questions about this.

Is this what you mean?

That looks like a wrinkle in the fabric where it was pulled to the inside.

There is a good chance it could be released from the inside and re glued.

That is a nice looking cowl and a great price. Amazing if you've ever seen one of the real cowls how rough they were put together-- the cowls Will, Wally and Chuck made or make are so much more polished.

Thanks Chuck! Yes, that's the spot.

If it's the fabric, I feel better that a repair so small could be made.

I had e-mail correspondence with Will somewhere around January of this year and he indicated he was still making cowls then so if you are inclined to buy a new one from Will I would think that should still be possible.
