Re: Diamond Unveils Shakespeare Bust at NY Toy Fair
Just spotted this myself.
I'm glad someone with this license has taken this project on in one for or another.
Although it's a cool idea for a "piggy bank", i'm not sure that it will scratch the itch of those hoping for a replica like the un-licensed "working" prop versions that a lot of us have.

YES!!!! Not spot on but not too bad either.
I agree Ben. The working (wireless) electric switch and a real top notch sculpture widely available to lower the cost is what most of us want.

It probably wouldn't take much to rig in a light and switch to make it function.

Holy Bat Guano! This just saved me a lot of work and retailing at $65!!! Excellent.
Depending on what type of plastic this is done in will make the decision if electronics can be added or not. Plus, I'm guessing the neck plate does not come out making it extremely hard to put the electronics in.
Anyways, I'll be getting on.

Re: Diamond Unveils Shakespeare Bust at NY Toy Fair
Why, oh, why are these Shakespeare busts always so off model? At $65, we've never had anything at this price point worth having, so I'm almost sure to buy it, but, gee whiz, with all the talented sculptors at Diamond Select's disposal, WHY? It's like the Diamond Select guys looked at that old fan-made replica, not the original! I suppose the "bronze" finish is one of those "it's what I remember from watching the show as a kid" things, even though we all know the original wasn't a bronze finish at all! I'm shaking my be-cowled head in disappointment. So close and yet so far! Sigh!

Oh, hell yeah, been waiting a long time for an affordable bust. And it might not be an exact replica it sure is a lot better than the one selling on eBay with that awful sculpt

I don't think it looks that bad. Yes it could be a lighter color, but it still looks good.
Re: Diamond Unveils Shakespeare Bust at NY Toy Fair
I think this one looks pretty cool for what it is. Here's a comparative of ones that I've seen out there. I would imagine to get a truly authentic repro, you'd need access to the original (1st one on the left I believe) which I've read is a part of the Azarian collection.

Close enough for me, I like it.

Very cool. Didn't realize it was a bank until you guys pointed it out.
I know some of you guys are going to convert this to an actual working bust with the proper electronics.
Looking forward to seeing those posts!

The thing is, is that it's such a sad sculpture to start with, it's reproductions read even worse!
But, it is what it is! THE bust used on the show.

Yes, the original is INDEED part of the Azarian collection.
Wonder if anyone could sweet-talk John into allowing it to be scanned for an EXACT replica?
Wouldn't that be nice?
